Posting Note: Phoenix Children’s Hospital has initiated a national search for an innovative leader to serve as the Division Chief of Nephrology. This is an exciting opportunity for a gifted clinical and academic pediatric nephrologist. Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Phoenix Children’s Medical Group recently announced that that the six pediatric nephrologists from Pediatric Kidney Disease and Hypertension Centers (PKDHC) will be joining the Phoenix Children’s Medical Group (PCMG), effective January 1, 2021. Posting Note: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) provides care to a caseload of patients within their scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, regulations, institutional policies, and practice agreements. He/she functions as a licensed independent practitioner (LIP) who works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team including cardiac intensivists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, pediatric surgeons, and other subspecialists as needed. He/she is directly supervised by the Division Chief and Director of Advanced Practice services, under the direction of the Physician-in-chief. The APP in the CVICU is part of a team caring for acutely ill patients in the ICU, whose condition can change rapidly. They are responsible for developing a plan of care for their patient load, presenting the plan to the attending physician and medical team, and carrying out the plan throughout the day, adjusting the plan as the patient’s condition changes. The APP is expected to participate in both formal and in-formal education for the CVICU RNs and MD fellows, and actively participate in all division related meetings. An ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of ICU experience as a bedside RN, preferably in the CVICU setting, as well as strong clinical experience in an ICU setting as a student. However, these items are not a requirement for consideration. The hours worked by the APP in the CVICU are varied, and include day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holidays. As this is a shift-work and exempt position, the amount of work per week is not always consistent (i.e. you may work 3 days one week and two night shifts the next week). Experience in research and programmatic development would be of interest as we seek to develop our programs within benign hematology. Responsibilities include clinical care, teaching, and participation in clinical research. The candidate will be an integral and interactive member of the Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and participate in inpatient and outpatient management of hematology patients. Our Center is the major referral center in the Southwestern region with approximately 1500 new hematology patients per year. We currently have a large hematology patient population with close to 550 congenital bleeding disorder patients followed at our federally-funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, over 325 sickle cell/thalassemia patients, and close to 150 new thrombosis patients per year. We currently have multi-disciplinary clinics for hemophilia and other congenital bleeding disorders, immunohematology, neurovascular diseases, sickle cell/thalassemia, and other chronically transfused patients with various diagnoses including bone marrow failure and RBC enzyme deficiencies.
