This position performs Nuclear Medicine, PET and SPECT examinations to provide data for diagnosis of diseases in addition to performing therapeutic treatments in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements. Under the direction of the department lead and manager, must be proficient in examinations, patient care, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer technology and apply these skills in daily job performance. Also coordinates and participates in various research ventures.

Position Duties

  • Nuclear Medicine/PET/SPECT Technologist
    Performs a full spectrum of Nuc Med, PET, and SPECT functional dynamic studies for acquired and congenital diseases in the pediatric population. Prepares, handles, and administers radioactive isotopes for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Competency in accessing and maintaining central lines as well as collection and handling blood products. Training in radiation safety, operation of equipment. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and coordinate with other services and patient care teams. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills required.
  • Documenting of Examinations
    Concise and appropriate documentation of dose administered, site of administration, all pertinent prior preparation and post care. Correct billing of charges and exams. Expertise in scheduling and performing appropriate scans based on patient diagnosis.
  • Quality Metrics
    Works together with other members of the nuclear medicine/PET team to obtain ACR certification. Performs daily/monthly QA on all cameras and instrumentation. Monitors and properly disposes of all radioactive waste to meet state and federal guidelines.

  • Personal growth
    Constantly pursues knowledge and self-improvement by remaining apprised of current literature, practices, and new developments in the field. Attends staff meetings; participates in and contributes to PCH educational offerings and off-site conferences/seminars; and completes self-directed learning via professional journals, texts, and appropriate online resources.
  • Programmatic Development
    Recommends and implements approved imaging sequencing protocols, policies, and guidelines; employs policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards to validate current practice requirements and support of overall organizational values and mission. Serves as a mentor and/or preceptor to peers, students, trainees, and observers.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
