Position Summary

Posting Note: Phoenix Children’s Division of Genetics and Metabolism is seeking a BC/BE Medical Geneticist to join our growing program. The Genetics and Metabolism Department at Phoenix Children’s, the only one of its kind in the State of Arizona, offers comprehensive and compassionate evaluation, diagnostic, treatment and follow-up services for children and families with known or suspected genetic conditions. Our services include prenatal genetic counseling, genetic counseling for diagnosed syndromes, medical genetics team evaluations, and genetic diagnostic laboratory testing. Our program serves as the main genetics referral for a population of 7 million residents, of whom 1.5 million are in the pediatric age range. Multiple opportunities exist within our program for specialty interests. The Women’s and Children’s Pavilion will open in 2023, which will expand the Fetal Care Program. Metabolic experience is welcomed, as our clinic features an active Lysosomal Disease Treatment Center and serves as the primary medical consultants for the Arizona State Newborn Screening Program. We participate in multi-specialty care teams, including the 22q clinic, skeletal dysplasia clinic, neurofibromatosis, and upcoming programs for Marfan syndrome and cardiogenetics. Our Genetics staff includes 5 physicians, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 5 Genetic Counselors, 2 Dietitians, a Clinic Coordinator, Research Coordinator, and additional support staff. The clinical activities includes 2400 ambulatory visits and 400 multi-specialty inpatient consultations. Active involvement in resident, fellow, medical student, and genetic counseling student teaching through affiliated programs is expected. Academic appointments are encouraged through our relationships with University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, Creighton University School of Medicine, and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine

Position Duties

  1. Patient Care Services
    • 1)Provide patient care services for which he/she is clinically privileged, including but not limited to:
    • a)Provide direct patient care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis
    • b)Provide subspecialty consultations and follow-up.
    • c)Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures
    • d)Provide these services for urgent/ emergent care as necessary
    • 2)Strive to achieve the best patient and family centered care
    • 3)Support Hospital’s patient satisfaction goals as well as division’s specific targets
    • 4)Support and adhere to divisional patient safety and quality of care standards
    • 5)Practices Contemporary Evidence based medicine or latest experience based medicine
  2. Divisional Responsibilities
    • 1)Establish and demonstrate effort to achieve annual physician goals and objectives (e.g. individual, division, hospital)
    • 2)Support the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:
    • a)Provide direct supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals for the delivery of inpatient and outpatient services when applicable
    • b)Conduct teaching rounds, lectures and conference for trainees
    • c)Participate in the teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals assigned to the division
    • d)Participate in the postgraduate continuing educational activities of the division
    • 3)Support the research endeavors of the division including the research initiatives by other members of the division
    • 4)Support programmatic growth of division
    • 5)Support satellite efforts of division when appropriate
