This role is role is to educate families who will manage peritoneal dialysis in their homes. The specialist will be responsible for conducting one-on-one education with patients and their families, including an initial two-week training period for each new patient. A unique aspect of this position involves visiting the patient’s home on the first night of dialysis to ensure comfort, safety, and proper technique. In addition to primary education responsibilities, the specialist lead incenter training sessions with hemodialysis families and contribute to the development of patient education plans, tools, and curriculum as the program evolves. While the focus is entirely on educating patients and families—rather than clinical nurse training—the specialist will be trained as a core RN in both Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis to provide comprehensive, informed guidance. The ideal candidate will have experience in Peritoneal Dialysis, demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and possess the ability to educate diverse learners with empathy and adaptability. This role is exempt and offers a full time schedule Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm and no weekends! New Grads will not be considered.
This position develops, implements, and evaluates proactive educational plans and programs within the departmental needs to ensure ongoing patient and family education and training according to best practice, requirements, and regulations.

Posting Note: Phoenix Children's has an immediate opening in our Patient Placement Unit! This is a PRN position, and we are looking for someone who can work approximately one shift a week. You will be triaging calls from providers and other hospitals from around Arizona, and the country for the specialty care that only Phoenix Children's can offer! The successful candidate will have a solid background/experience working in a critical care unit, ICU, PICU, CVICU or ED. Must have outstanding critical thinking skills to assess the needs when speaking with providers/hospitals on the type of care they are needing. Exceptional PC skills are a necessity as you will be navigating three screens at any time and accessing/using 6 computer programs to determine if Phoenix Children's has the skills needed, beds, and care needed for the patient. You will be working either an 8- or 12-hour shift, alongside a dedicated team of nurses who are passionate about the unique care we can offer patients across the country. This position is located at our Thomas Campus. NO New Grads, please.
This position is accountable for coordination and acceptance of information regarding direct admissions and transfers to Phoenix Children`s Hospital. Responsibilities also include coordinating all aspects of patient placement within the facilities, and partnering with nursing and other clinical operation departments to facilitate patient access, throughput, and capacity.
