Position Summary
The Vice President of Supply Chain Management provides enterprise executive leadership for the strategic planning, design, execution, and continuous improvement of supply chain operations. The Vice President develops and advances an integrated supply chain strategy that supports Phoenix Children’s mission, values, clinical priorities, growth, and financial stewardship. The role establishes effective standards, governance, policies, and processes to ensure reliable, efficient, and cost-effective supply chain services across the organization. As the organization’s senior supply chain leader, the Vice President is responsible for strategic sourcing, contracting, procurement, materials management, logistics and distribution, inventory optimization, value analysis, supplier performance, and supply chain technology and analytics. The Vice President leads enterprise negotiations and contracting efforts, develops strategic supplier relationships, strengthens supply continuity and resiliency, and partners with clinical, operational, and financial leaders to achieve measurable improvements in quality, service, cost, and operational performance. The Vice President also provides executive leadership for major initiatives and projects requiring supply chain expertise, sound judgment, and effective change leadership.
Position Duties

Strategic Planning
• Assesses the healthcare and supply chain environment for emerging trends, risks, technologies, and leading practices that may influence enterprise operations, individual departments, or service lines.
• Develops and executes an enterprise supply chain strategy aligned with organizational priorities, clinical needs, growth plans, and financial objectives.
• Uses national best practices, analytics, benchmarking, market intelligence, and professional expertise to identify innovative solutions that improve value, service, quality, and operational performance.
• Develops comprehensive sourcing, procurement, materials management, logistics, inventory, and supply continuity strategies and translates them into measurable operational objectives and performance goals.
• Anticipates supply disruption and market risk and develops resilient sourcing and continuity strategies to support reliable patient care operations. -
Leadership
• Provides executive leadership and strategic direction for Supply Chain Management, establishing operational, financial, service, and performance objectives that support the mission and goals of the organization.
• Builds and develops a high-performing, accountable, collaborative, and service-oriented Supply Chain team capable of supporting the current and future needs of Phoenix Children’s.
• Establishes an effective organizational structure, leadership model, succession plan, and talent development strategy for Supply Chain Management.
• Leads by example and creates an environment that reflects Phoenix Children’s mission, vision, values, and Standards of Behavior and Conduct, ensuring team members understand their contribution to quality patient care, operational excellence, and responsible stewardship. -
Financial Management
• Provides executive oversight for Supply Chain budget development, financial performance, productivity, and resource stewardship.
• Establishes and monitors performance standards for assigned departments, ensuring action plans are developed and implemented to address unfavorable variances and performance gaps.
• Ensures capital purchases receive appropriate Supply Chain review and that final negotiations are completed to achieve competitive pricing, favorable terms, and total value prior to purchase.
• Leads enterprise expense reduction and value creation efforts for supplies, equipment, and purchased services while supporting quality, safety, and clinical outcomes.
• Leads and manages key vendor and supplier agreements including logistics, GPO, strategic supplier, printing, and other purchased-service agreements; establishes performance expectations and ensures appropriate KPI, service-level, contractual, and regulatory compliance.
• Develops and reports measurable supply chain financial and operational performance indicators, including savings, cost avoidance, contract compliance, supplier performance, and other key measures. -
Collaboration
• Builds trusted, transparent relationships with leaders, physicians, clinicians, caregivers, Finance, Operations, Facilities, and other key stakeholders across the organization.
• Partners with clinical leaders and staff to advance value analysis, product standardization, and evidence-informed decision-making for products and services under consideration.
• Serves as an enterprise change leader for supply chain initiatives and other strategic initiatives as assigned.
• Works collaboratively with strategic supplier partners and other vendors to ensure effective operations, strong performance, innovation, and service that consistently support patient care.
• Facilitates cross-functional decision-making and resolves complex supply chain issues by balancing clinical, operational, financial, and service considerations. -
Human Resource Management
• Provides leadership, coaching, performance feedback, and timely evaluations for direct reports and holds leaders accountable for effective people management.
• Determines the appropriate organizational structure, staffing levels, roles, and qualifications required to effectively support the supply chain needs of the organization.
• Develops leadership capability and facilitates professional growth through succession planning, coaching, education, training, and appropriate professional development resources.
• Supports timely recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention of highly qualified Supply Chain team members.
• Creates an inclusive, accountable, and high-performing culture that engages and retains talent and supports organizational priorities. -
Service Optimization
• Provides executive oversight for GPO relationships, strategic supplier partnerships, contract performance, and compliance.
• Provides executive leadership for enterprise Supply Chain contracting, strategic sourcing, procurement, and supplier management efforts.
• Establishes expectations and governance for vendor activity and compliance with Phoenix Children’s policies, procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Advances technology-enabled supply chain operations, ensuring appropriate systems, analytics, tools, and training are available to support effective decision-making and efficient workflows.
• Leads efforts to optimize inventory, distribution, logistics, standardization, supplier performance, and supply availability across the enterprise.
• Ensures compliance with applicable organizational quality and safety goals within Supply Chain Management. -
Performance Improvement
• Participates in key organizational committees and provides executive Supply Chain expertise to performance improvement and strategic initiatives.
• Continuously evaluates Supply Chain operations and performance, identifies opportunities for operational and financial improvement, and develops and implements measurable improvement plans.
• Uses benchmarking, professional networks, industry data, analytics, and leading practices to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement and innovation.
• Applies appropriate continuous improvement methodologies, including Six Sigma Lean Management and other process improvement approaches, to improve quality, efficiency, service, and financial performance across enterprise Supply Chain operations.
• Establishes meaningful performance metrics and dashboards to monitor outcomes, sustain improvements, and promote accountability. -
