Position Summary
This position is responsible for advancing Patient Family-Centered Care and Emotional Safety across Phoenix Children's. As a vital member of the Division of Patient-Family Experience, the Emotional Safety Educ Spec works to instill a deep understanding of the principles driving patient and family experience, connecting team members to its meaningful impact. This role supports clinicians by providing hands-on guidance, practical tools, and resources that enhance clinical practice, fostering a culture of compassion and excellence on a broad scale. Additionally, this position supports enterprise patient experience goals, participate in relevant research, and work to measure the effects of emotionally safe care on patient and family outcomes.
Position Duties

Education & Program Development
1. Creates and delivers impactful educational programs that support the patient-family experience, providing clinicians with practical resources to enhance patient interactions and improve the overall quality of care.
2. Collaborates with individuals and departments across the system to support integration of patient experience perspective into relevant educational opportunities.
3. Partners with Professional Practice to align processes and approaches with other clinical education professionals.
4. Works to prioritize and direct patient experience initiatives in the Education Governance process.
5. Provides ongoing education for new hires related to emotional safety and patient experience initiatives.
6. Develops, implements, and evaluates educational initiatives that support patient family-centered care and emotional safety.
7. Designs tangible tools and resources that clinicians can apply in real-time to improve patient outcomes.
8. Uses a variety of teaching strategies tailored to different learning styles and needs. -
Clinician Support & Change Facilitation
Works directly with clinicians, providing hands-on support and guidance to integrate patient-centered practices across the hospital, acting as a catalyst for meaningful change.
1. Identifies trends in education needs among staff and provides appropriate training and educational updates in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders on available/appropriate platforms.
2. Provides on-the-ground support and coaching to clinicians in patient family-centered care practices.
3. Collaborates with leaders, staff, and departments to align practices with the organization’s patient experience goals.
4. Acts as a change agent, fostering a culture that values emotional safety and patient-centered practices. -
Outcomes Research and Evidence-Based Practice Leadership
1. Engages in research initiatives to quantify the effects of emotionally safe care and patient-centered practices, generating insights to guide hospital strategies and policies.
2. Provides consultation to staff in evidence-based practice/quality improvement/research projects from initial planning through presentation or publication on topics related to patient experience
3. Participates in research focused on patient and family outcomes, contributing to evidence-based insights.
4. Evaluates outcomes of emotionally safe care practices, presenting findings to inform practice and policy.
5. Participates in dissemination of knowledge via podium, poster presentations, publication submission, and/or other forms of scholarly information exchange.
6. Seeks and takes advantage of opportunities to enhance own professional growth and development. -
Strategic Alignment with Patient Experience Goals
1. Drives enterprise-wide patient experience initiatives, working at a macro level to ensure that patient family-centered practices align with Phoenix Children’s strategic objectives. Engages in ongoing organizational endeavors which support the philosophy and values of Phoenix Children's and development of staff.
2. Supports the advancement of hospital-wide patient experience goals through targeted educational programs.
3. Works on a macro level to ensure alignment between clinical practices and institutional strategic initiatives.
4. Contributes to enterprise patient experience metrics and improvement strategies. -
Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
