Position: Blood and Marrow Transplant Physician
Job Duties:
1. Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care to pediatric patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular/gene therapy, including pre-transplant evaluation, conditioning chemotherapy, stem cell infusion, and long-term post-transplant follow-up.
2. Manage acute and chronic transplant-related complications (e.g., graft-versus-host disease, sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, infections, organ toxicities), including interpretation of complex laboratory, pathology, and imaging data and prescribing immunosuppressive medications (e.g., calcineurin/mTOR inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, antivirals, antifungals, and chemotherapy) in accordance with institutional protocols, national guidelines and best practices.
3. Participate in transplant donor selection and graft source decisions (matched sibling, unrelated, haploidentical, cord blood), including review of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing, chimerism studies, and transplant registries (e.g., NMDP/Be The Match), and coordinate with apheresis, cell processing laboratories, and blood banks for stem cell collection, cryopreservation, and stem cell infusion.
4. Lead and document multidisciplinary rounds and family conferences, communicating complex prognostic, therapeutic, and survivorship issues in an age-appropriate and culturally sensitive manner, and using Electronic Medical Record-integrated messaging tools when appropriate.
5. Contribute to clinical protocols and quality-improvement initiatives in blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapy, including data entry and outcomes reporting to transplant databases (e.g., CIBMTR) and use of spreadsheet and statistical software (e.g., Excel, REDCap, OTTR) to track and analyze outcomes and complications.
Job Requirements:
Education Requirements:
• Doctor of Medicine degree, or closely related. Employer will accept foreign equivalent degree if in same field.
Experience Requirements:
• 24 months in job offered, Clinical and Research Fellow, Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, or closely related.
Special skills requirements:
1. Ability to prescribe and manage high-risk chemotherapy, immunosuppressive agents (e.g., conditioning chemotherapy regimens), and transplant-related toxicities.
2. Experience interpreting complex diagnostic data (hematology/chemistry labs, bone marrow biopsies, chimerism studies, imaging, HLA typing) and incorporating results into individualized transplant and cellular therapy plans.
3. Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and leading family meetings, as well as experience in counseling patients and families about complex, high-risk therapies and long-term survivorship issues.
4. Experience leading and documenting multidisciplinary rounds and family conferences, communicating complex prognostic, therapeutic, and survivorship issues in an age-appropriate and culturally sensitive manner.
5. Must have an unrestricted Medical License from the Arizona Medical Board.
6. Must have a Certification in General Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics.
7. Must have completed residency in Pediatrics.
8. Must have completed a fellowship as a Medical Staff Fellow in Pediatrics Hematology Oncology.

The staff physician shall provide patient care services and will support the Phoenix Children's mission of providing hope, healing and the best health care for children and their families.
Position Duties

Patient Care Services
1) Provide patient care services for which he/she is clinically privileged, including but not limited to:
a) Provide direct patient care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis
b) Provide subspecialty consultations and follow-up.
c) Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures
d) Provide these services for urgent/ emergent care as necessary
2) Strive to achieve the best patient and family centered care
3) Support Hospital’s patient satisfaction goals as well as division’s specific targets
4) Support and adhere to divisional patient safety and quality of care standards
5) Practices Contemporary Evidence based medicine or latest experience based medicine -
Divisional Responsibilities
1) Establish and demonstrate effort to achieve annual physician goals and objectives (e.g. individual, division, hospital)
2) Support the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:
a) Provide direct supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals for the delivery of inpatient and outpatient services when applicable
b) Conduct teaching rounds, lectures and conference for trainees
c) Participate in the teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals assigned to the division
d) Participate in the postgraduate continuing educational activities of the division
3) Support the research endeavors of the division including the research initiatives by other members of the division
4) Support programmatic growth of division
5) Support satellite efforts of division when appropriate -

Other activities
1) Physician shall support the Division Chief in his/her role as liaison to the professional community and general public as requested by the Division Chief
2) Physician may conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside of Phoenix Children's, particularly if these activities support divisional clinical and teaching programs/ initiatives.
3) Physician shall represent Phoenix Children's in the medical and business communities and before the general public in a professional manner
4) The following physical and mental skills are essential to the physician’s ability to successfully perform the foregoing duties and responsibilities:
a) The ability to communicate by telephone, computer or other communication devices
b) The ability to perform after hours or night call responsibilities as needed
c) The ability to work regularly scheduled work hours -
