Position Summary

Posting Note: Phoenix Children’s is hiring a Nurse Scientist to advance nursing research and innovation within our organization. This role will mentor clinicians in research and scholarly work, support study design and dissemination, and contribute to building a robust nursing research infrastructure. Ideal candidates bring a blend of academic rigor and clinical relevance, with a passion for developing others and translating research into meaningful improvements in patient care.

The Nurse Scientist provides scientific, methodological, and scholarly expertise to advance nursing research, evidence-based practice (EBP), and innovation across the organization. The role focuses on design, mentorship, analysis, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge into practice, aligned with organizational priorities and Magnet expectations.

Position Duties

  • Nursing Research & Scientific Expertise
    - Provides scientific leadership and expertise in nursing research methodology, study design, and analysis.
    - Serves as a subject-matter expert for quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research.
    - Advises nursing leaders and teams on appropriate research approaches aligned with clinical questions and organizational priorities.
    - Supports development of research protocols and study plans.
  • Mentorship & Capacity Building
    - Mentors nurses and interprofessional team members in research design, literature appraisal, data analysis and interpretation, and scholarly writing and presentation.
    - Supports development of nurse investigators across career stages.
    - Provides consultation to shared governance councils, EBP teams, and clinical leaders on research-related questions.
    - Supports development of a sustainable nursing research culture.
  • Knowledge Translation & Dissemination
    - Leads and supports dissemination of nursing research findings through peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, posters, and podium presentations, and internal and external forums.
    - Supports translation of research findings into clinical practice in collaboration with operational leaders.
    - Partners with Magnet Program leadership to ensure research contributions align with Magnet sources of evidence.
  • Collaboration & Interprofessional Integration
    - Collaborates with EBP Program Manager, Research Coordinator, nursing leaders and shared governance councils, and academic and research partners.
    - Participates in interdisciplinary research initiatives and innovation efforts.
    - Serves as a liaison between clinical nursing practice and research methodology expertise.
  • Professional Development & Continuous Improvement
    - Maintains current knowledge of emerging research methods, regulatory standards, and best practices.
    - Participates in professional development and scholarly activities.
    - Contributes to advancement of nursing science within the organization.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
