Position Summary
The Director of the Magnet Program provides strategic leadership and oversight for the organization’s pursuit and sustainment of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. This role is accountable for enterprise-wide Magnet program, alignment with organizational priorities, and sustained performance across all Magnet model components. Additionally, this position is responsible for prioritization, integration, and outcomes accountability, ensuring Magnet principles are embedded into nursing practice, governance, research, quality, and workforce strategy.
Position Duties

Magnet Program Oversight & Risk Management
- Accountable for the Magnet journey, including initial designation and redesignation.
- Establishes the enterprise Magnet roadmap, milestones, and success metrics.
- Identifies risks that may jeopardize Magnet timelines or outcomes and implements mitigation strategies.
- Advises the VP, Professional Practice, CNE and senior leadership on Magnet readiness, risks, and strategic decisions.
- Ensures Magnet strategy is integrated into organizational strategic plans, nursing priorities, and quality goals.
- Leads Magnet Steering Committee and ensures accountability across departments.
- Provides leadership and direction to the Magnet Program Manager and Magnet Program Office.
- Ensures appropriate resourcing, prioritization, and escalation of issues. -
Organizational Alignment & Governance Integration
- Ensures professional governance structures align with Magnet expectations and demonstrate meaningful RN decision-making.
- Partners with nursing, quality, HR, informatics, and academic partners to embed Magnet principles into daily practice.
- Oversees optimization of professional governance councils, charters, bylaws, and outcomes. -
Outcomes, Research & Evidence Accountability
- Partners with nursing leaders to ensure alignment with Magnet standards on nursing-sensitive indicators and empirical outcomes, RN satisfaction and engagement results, nursing research, EBP, and innovation portfolios, sustainable pipelines for research and EBP, dissemination and scholarly output, and alignment of outcomes with Magnet sources of evidence.
- Holds leaders accountable for sustained performance above benchmarks. -
Representation, Advocacy & Communication
- Serves as the organizational representative for Magnet-related internal and external engagements.
- Partners with Communications Specialist - Professional Practice to ensure consistent, accurate Magnet messaging.
- Supports leadership readiness and storytelling for site visits and appraiser interactions.
- Promotes nursing excellence and Magnet principles across the enterprise. -
Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
