Clinical Genomics Scientist

The Clinical Genomics Scientist plays a critical role in variant interpretation, classification, and reporting to support clinical genomic testing. This position provides high-level scientific expertise in the analysis of genetic testing data including next-generation sequencing (NGS) such including NGS panels, whole exome sequencing (WES), and whole genome sequencing (WGS). The Clinical Genomics Scientist will work closely with Clinical Genomics physician leadership to ensure high-quality, clinically reliable genomic results and to advance the adoption of cutting-edge innovations in genomic testing. Responsibilities include supporting the director's efforts in test development, implementation, optimization, and validation, as well as contributing to the growth and development of Phoenix Children's Clinical Genomics Laboratory. This is a laboratory staff position with accountability to laboratory leadership for operational and administrative matters and to physician leadership for all clinical, scientific, and laboratory interpretation activities. The Clinical Genomics Scientist is expected to work within the priorities, direction, and defined scope established by laboratory leadership. Activities or commitments outside the defined scope of this role require advanced approval from laboratory leadership.

Posting Note: Phoenix Children's Core Laboratory is seeking an experienced Medical Lab Scientist to join our Phoenix lab team. This is a salaried, 1.0 FTE job with technical and personnel management duties. Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, MLS or C ASCP certification, and a minimum of 4 years of chemistry experience working in a hospital lab setting are required. Experience with new equipment/assay implementation, EHR/LIS validation, calibration/QC/AMR, employee training, QC/QA management tools, and non-conforming event investigation are strongly preferred.
This position works collaboratively with section directors, managers, technical specialists, and leadership team to provide technical and personnel supervision for assigned staff to ensure high quality daily operations. Laboratory Business Operations Specialist

This position works in the Business Operations team, serving as a key technical resource while providing strategic guidance and expertise to all laboratory departments. This role is responsible for optimizing prompt and accurate billing for all hospital laboratory and pathology professional billing services, including but not limited to, reviewing system error reports and resolution of billing exceptions, auditing of referral lab invoices, developing and maintaining reference testing 3rd party billing workflows, providing support for all clinical and anatomic pathology billing needs, and ensuring laboratory billing is current and appropriate for all testing. The Medical Laboratory Technician I has a working comprehension of the technical and procedural aspects of laboratory tests. The MLT I comprehends and follows procedural guidelines to perform laboratory tests to include instrument operation and troubleshooting, result reporting and record documentation, quality control monitoring, computer applications and safety requirements. This position receives supervision of completed work activities from the supervisor. The MLT I may perform regulatory/compliance duties that require high level of technical knowledge and skills under supervision of certified personnel. This position is temporary and shall be occupied for 18 months maximum. To remain employed by Phoenix Children's past the initial 18 months, the incumbent shall have obtained a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) ASCP Certification or equivalent as determined by laboratory leadership. Once obtained, the incumbent will be moved to the MLT II role.
