Posting Note: The position operates on a standard Monday–Friday day shift (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) and follows a hybrid work model, with increased remote flexibility once training is complete. The Genetic Counselor Assistant interacts regularly with genetic counselors, laboratory leadership, clinical teams, and patient families, supporting case preparation, report drafting assistance, and coordination of authorizations and documentation. The ideal candidate brings experience in a healthcare or clinical setting, strong organizational and communication skills, and comfort handling sensitive information in a fast-paced environment. This role reports to laboratory leadership within a small, multidisciplinary team and is evaluated on productivity, accuracy, adherence to procedures, and collaboration. The position offers meaningful exposure to clinical genetics within a mission-driven organization, with opportunities for professional growth as the program continues to expand.
The Genetic Counselor Assistant is a newly created role supporting the expansion of clinical genomic services within a growing pediatric Clinical Genomics Laboratory. This position provides operational and clinical support to genetic counselors and laboratory teams by coordinating genetic test orders, specimen tracking, documentation, and patient-facing communication. The role serves as a key liaison between families, providers, and the genetics team, helping ensure genetic testing workflows move efficiently and accurately while supporting high-quality patient care.
The Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) provides critical clinical , operational and administrative support for the Clinical Genomics Laboratory. Under the supervision of laboratory leadership, the GCA assists with communicating with providers, coordinating patient outreach for specimen collection and patients (families) consent, tracking genetic test orders, and facilitating pre-access and financial clearance workflows for insurance authorization. Additionally, the GCA will provide valuable contribution with literature review, gene and panel curation, and drafting clinical reports in support of variant interpretation and genetic counseling services. This role may involve working with genetic counseling students, providing an opportunity to contribute to education and training. The GCA ensures smooth clinical operations by collaborating with laboratory genetic counselors, physicians, bioinformaticians, and medical staff to support the timely and efficient delivery of genomic testing services.
Position Duties

Track genetic test orders and specimen status to ensure timely processing and follow-up.

Coordinate outreach for specimen collection and consent forms under guidance of genetic counselors.

Communicate with providers about test status, insurance authorization, and documentation.

Assist genetic counselors in drafting reports and literature reviews for variant interpretation.

Serve as liaison between providers and patients to coordinate communication and case updates.

Develop educational materials and assist students in training activities and case preparation.

Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
