Position Summary

This position provides language interpretation services between patients, families and healthcare team to ensure comprehension of cultural considerations during treatment planning. This position has full proficiency in the Phoenix Children`s Hospital Language Services model typically developed through a combination of job-related training and considerable work experience. The Interpreter II position also performs as a preceptor to new employees, assists with training, and acts as a role model for others.

Position Duties

  • Concurrently performs bilingual interpretation (English and Spanish) of patient care needs between patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure understanding of needs, issues, and/or concerns.
    Consecutive interpretation following national standards of practice and ethics.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of interpretation activities.
  • Participates in a variety of department and/or hospital sponsored educational programs to maintain skills and competencies.
  • Works closely and in conjunction with the Translator by identifying documents, materials, and other written information, including, but not limited to, consents and discharge information requiring translation.
  • Identifies and refers psychosocial issues to Social Work, Child Life, Spiritual Care, or other Family Centered Care departments to ensure appropriate and effective response to patient/family needs.
  • Participates in teaching the Spanish Bilingual Assistant class for Phoenix Children`s Hospital.
  • Serves as a preceptor to new employees, role modeling excellent customer service skills.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Experience

within the timeframe listed in the requirement?
1. Minimum 6 months of experience as an Interpreter I at Phoenix Children`s Hospital.

2. One (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting.

3. Experience with interpreting in Spanish as spoken and understood by patients and families served by Phoenix Children`s Hospital.
