Position Summary
Posting Note: Full-time. Monday - Friday. On call every other weekend, Located at Mercy Gilbert Outpatient Clinic.
This position will provide daily coordination and leadership for the Newborn Hearing Screeners (NBHS) at birthing hospitals contracted with Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) for newborn screening services and at PCH locations where newborn hearing screening is provided.
Position Duties

Organize Daily Newborn Hearing Screening
a. Participates in daily census texts and conversations.
b. Determines staffing based on staff call offs and daily census.
c. Arranges for or provide screening for early discharges and missed babies.
d. Participates in rotation of weekend call with other NBHS leads and supervisors, as applicable.
e. Responds to Vocera messages on call weekend.
f. Flexible with work hours and locations of work. -
Provide Newborn Hearing Screening
a. Provides at least two days of screening per week at hospital or outpatient locations, as needed.
b. Evaluates and prioritize infants to be screened prior to discharge from the hospital based on time of birth, estimated discharge time, and potential need for second screen and baby state.
c. Performs automated screening test based on screening protocol and documents results.
d. Follows established infection control procedures, utilizing appropriate baby handling skills such as calming a baby, using soothing infant touch, and swaddling.
e. Provide newborn screens when other coverage is unavailable due to calls offs or illness.
f. Trained to provide screening at all PCH contracted hospitals and outpatient screening locations. -
Training, Coaching, and Mentoring Staff
a. Participates with supervisor in interviewing and recruiting staff.
b. Trains staff on newborn screening techniques, guidelines, and policies of the hospitals.
c. Assesses staff newborn hearing screening service delivery.
d. Shadows screeners monthly to assure correct procedures are in place.
e. Retrains screeners as needed. -
Equipment and Supplies
a. Troubleshoots equipment issues and concerns. Trains staff on the equipment and processes for obtaining replacement equipment and equipment repair.
b. Works with vendor, PCH IT, and IT of screening hospital as needed for software, equipment, and account issues.
c. Assures adequate supplies are available each location, orders supplies, and facilitates delivery.
d. Orders 1/3/6 brochures from PCH Copy Center or screening hospital copy center. -
Liaison
Point of daily contact for nursing, physician, and screener concerns. -
Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
