Position Summary

The Interpreter Services Supervisor works under the direction of the Manager of Language & Cultural Services to provide day-to-day supervision of activities related to Language Services. Responsibilities include planning and executing operational activities, staffing, and providing a point of service contact for all departments that utilize Language Services. This position maintains appropriate staffing levels and monitors the daily productivity of the staff in addition to providing ongoing support and assessment of interpreter staff by developing individual and group educational opportunities.

Position Duties

  • Supervises daily activities of department or assigned area to include hiring, coaching, disciplining, creating development plans, writing check ins and scheduling of staff.
    a. Assesses needs and provides on-going support by rounding, shadowing and continuous collaboration with staff
    b. Supervises the workflow of Interpreters
    c. Creates and facilitates preceptor/orientation program for new employees
    d. Supports manager with completion of annual staff mandatory competencies
    e. Supervises on-site and remote employees
    f. Schedules American Sign-Language (ASL) Interpreters and supports staff with languages of lesser diffusion
  • Identifies opportunities for departmental process improvement.
    a. Assists in identifying and implementing new solutions to maintain and improve workflow
    b. Recognizes areas for improvement to departmental processes and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Develops and facilitates the delivery of department orientation and training programs for Language Services.
    Provides thorough orientation and ongoing training on operational procedures and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Acts as a role model by displaying exemplary, compassionate and professional behavior and motivates staff to provide excellent, patient-focused customer service.
    a. Provides leadership by projecting a positive attitude and motivating learning
    b. Accountable for promoting a culture of learning resulting in staff/team development and retention
  • Provides front line supervision, including responding to fluctuations. This may include performing the duties of an interpreter, as needed.
    Makes decisions that demonstrate sound stewardship of financial resources – collaborates with the team to meet department/organization financial goals
  • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels and demonstrates commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

2. Completion of Spanish Bilingual Assistant training or equivalent interpreter training of minimum of 40 hours
