Position Summary

Posting Note: Full time On-site at our main campus in Phoenix. Must have knowledge of our State Medicaid and Marketplace insurers.

Reporting to the Patient Access Financial Clearance Center Manager this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of financial counseling activities. The Financial Counseling Supervisor assists in the supervision by functioning as a group/team mentor and resource liaison. Responsible for leading, training, and motivating team members. In addition, this position is responsible for reviewing staff work schedules, monitors daily productivity of the staff, and reallocates duties as needed to assure the timely completion of duties. Responsible for collecting pre-service and time of service payments. This position must advise and educate families and patients of the financial assistance policies and assist families and patients in accessing financial resources available for their care.

Position Duties

  1. Actively participates in overseeing and guiding the department staff to include employee selection, training, development, performance evaluations and discipline.
    • Attends and actively participates in staff and interdepartmental meetings.
  2. Acts as a role model by displaying exemplary, compassionate and professional behavior and motivates staff to provide excellent, patient-focused service.
    • Provides ongoing feedback to all staff both new and existing and takes person responsibility for all issues by serving as a resource to the Financial Counselors on more complex cases.
  3. Based on insurance information obtained and using technological tools available, assists Financial Counselors in calculating deductibles, copays, out of pocket maximums, coverage restrictions, or other out of pocket expenses.
    • Builds relationships and maintains ongoing positive communication with patients, staff, DES, physicians and payers to provide information and/or resolve issues. Serves as a resource to all customers.
  4. Plans and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution and completion of assignments. Maintains staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
    • Monitors the Financial Counselor Work Queue to ensure there is appropriate coverage to support and meet business needs. Ensures appropriate coverage by reviewing staff work schedules.
  5. Maintains department manuals and reference materials. Communicates and implements updates and requirements on a timely basis.
  6. Oversees the daily operational activities of the department and assumes responsibility when Manager is not available.
    • Identifies opportunities for departmental process improvements.
  7. Participates in a variety of departmental and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels and demonstrates commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  8. Provides information for reporting by compiling department statistics, generating productivity reports, performing QA audits to assess accuracy and compliance, and monitoring KPI`s.
  9. Responds to patient fluctuations and assists staff in daily needs. Performs the duties of a Financial Counselor as needed.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

1. Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a health care setting that includes six months experience with computer-based Patient Management and/or billing systems

2. Experience performing Financial Counseling activities.

3. Experience in a Financial Counseling supervisor and/or leadership role.

4. Experience with EMR, document managing and payor website portals.
