Position Summary
Posting Note: **Part-time, Tuesday & Thursday, 4:30am- 3:30pm**
In alignment with American Kidney Foundation (AKF) standards and guidelines for this job description, the Hemodialysis Technician maintains smooth and efficient flow of patients in the dialysis clinic, performs functions delegated by nursing and physician staff, and maintains and promotes a safe, clean organized environment for the safe delivery of care while maintaining professional conduct, good communication skills, and confidentiality. This position also participates in the multidisciplinary process.
Position Duties
- Assembles and discards necessary dialysis supplies and sanitizes equipment according to manufacturer and unit protocol.
- Assembles prepares and tests the dialysis extra corporeal circuit and machine according to protocol and patient specific dialysis prescription.
- Inspects a patients dialysis access. Administers local anesthesia, inserts needles, and initiates dialysis according to unit protocol and patient prescription.
- Documents pre, intra and post treatment parameters and vital signs, and communicates patient condition including medical, psychosocial and nutritional concerns to the Registered Nurse
- Measures and adjusts blood flow rates, calculates fluid removal and administers replacement saline and anticoagulant according to unit protocols and prescription.
- Monitors patients and equipment, appropriately responds to alarms and dialysis emergencies, and readjusts treatment parameters as defined by established protocols and individual patient requirements.
- Discontinues dialysis and establishes hemostasis following unit protocol. Inspects, cleans, and dresses access according to unit protocol.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in identifying and meeting patient education goals.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
