Position Summary

This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of injury prevention efforts that meet individual, group, provider, organization, and community need. The position interfaces with the community as an ambassador of the hospital and Phoenix Children’s staff. The position fulfills job expectations by completing targeted needs assessments, providing strategic and effective interventions, and evaluating and researching program impact.

Position Duties

  1. Utilizes key sources of injury data at the national, state, and community level for use in program planning creation, development, and implementation efforts
    • Accesses and uses key journal and electronic resources to obtain updated information regarding evidence-based/evidence-informed injury prevention programming.
    • Integrates key data sources into identifying populations at risk, prioritizing, planning and evaluating prevention activities as well as quality improvement efforts.
    • Utilizes data to support advocacy efforts
    • Identifies opportunities for research; creates and implements community-based and clinical research projects.
    • Educates community members, physicians, clinical staff, and care providers regarding current best practices.
  2. Designs and implements specific injury prevention strategies that reflect knowledge, skills, and best practices in an identified injury topic area(s)
    • Identifies key stakeholders in development of injury prevention efforts.
    • Demonstrates knowledge about injury prevention topic and organizes messages and strategies around injury prevention topic.
    • Skillfully demonstrates injury prevention strategies that reflect identified best practice.
    • Integrates teaching skills and behavior change into intervention strategies
  3. Completes formative, impact, and outcome evaluation measures as established for a project/intervention.
    • Incorporates evaluation into existing and new prevention activities
    • Identifies measures of success for projects
    • Implements formative, impact and outcome measures as designed for selected projects and /or programs
    • Utilizes evaluation and research results to enhance program/ project activities and strategies;
  4. Creates and communicates expert information, feedback and programming documents/ education materials to effectively communicate information about injury prevention
    • Identifies the needs/ characteristics of the target audience receiving the materials and the goal of the communication.
    • Creates original content with health information; effectively designs educational / information content that reflect easy to understand messages, are visually appealing, and provide personal action recommendations.
    • Ensures that all educational content is culturally competent and seeks feedback about documents produced from experts and users of the information.
    • Prepares website content for use on the Phoenix Children’s website
  5. Formally shares injury prevention program information for community, state, and national audiences. Supports advocacy efforts concerning family health and safety.
    • Creates presentation documents that engage the audience
    • Presents program information in a clear and understandable manner for different audiences
  6. Leads and serves as a resource in relevant community group (s) (e.g., advisory, collaboration, coalition, and network)
    • Provides prevention expertise with relevant community groups.
    • Shares information from community groups, local, state and national stakeholders with team members
  7. Effectively interviews with both broadcast and print media on an injury topic.
    • Develops effective overview of issue with relevant data.
    • Assists hospital Public Relations in developing relevant press releases
    • Develops relevant targeted talking points.

  8. Monitors key components of the program budget and effectively proposes cost effective solutions to program spending. Contributes to the development of proposals for funding.
    • Determines the scope of grant to create and manage outcomes
    • Evaluates and report program outcomes.
    • Effectively manages grant expenditures.
    • Collaborates with Center for Family Health and Safety Manager and Foundation to write and complete grant applications.
    • Collaborates with funders and donors to execute program deliverables.
    • Participates in presenting proposals to funders and providing program updates and results.
    • Identifies potential funding opportunities.
  9. Clinical Consultation
    • Provides patient and family consults, education, and services for health, safety, and wellness.
    • Collaborates with Trauma and clinical staff to coordinate patient and family education for identified families.
    • Provides injury prevention education to staff and clinical providers.
    • Documents patient consultation in the medical record.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
