Position Summary

The Finance Systems Support Manager is responsible for the development and management of the Cost Accounting system used for service line margin analysis, payor analysis and pricing, and patient population reporting analytics. Provides support to the Director, Finance Decision Support overseeing utilization of decision support systems in support of major strategic and financial planning projects. Reviews analytics and supports feasibility studies prepared using STRATA software. Assists with the implementation and on-going maintenance of the STRATA application.

Position Duties

  1. Oversees the implementation of Cost Accounting system for the organization
    • Works with vendor and implementation team leadership to understand and structure regular work processes, data flows, and validation and reporting required for cost accounting and decision support
    • Documents those steps (work processes, data flows, validation, reporting, etc.) and decisions to track and adjust as systems and processes evolve
    • Participates in preparation of plans to transition from project initiation to on-going operations
    • Finalizes work assignments for the organization and entity personnel responsible for cost accounting
    • Identifies initial reporting and system information needed to initiate decision support activities
  2. Oversees and maintains Cost Accounting and Decision Support system for the organization
    • Outlines and understands the interconnected elements of cost accounting and decision support systems
    • Outlines and understands the decision support reporting and analytics process
    • Oversees maintenance of related system tables, protocols and related assumptions needed for cost design and effective reporting
    • Understands and tracks changes in departments, accounts and job codes across all entities
    • Assures consistent data extraction and flow into the system, coordinating with accounting and IT personnel across the organization
    • Maintains and updates relevant statistics and measures, including manual statistics if needed, to support cost accounting
    • Promotes decision support analytics and self-service reporting within the organization to ensure sound business decision making
    • Reviews and confirms validity of costing and related results for each entity and the organization as a whole
    • Identifies and solves problem as needed
  3. Coordinate report preparation and production for Decision Support and Cost Accounting
    • Coordinates and confirms report categorizations (entities, service lines, departments, etc.) with Finance management so that those categorizations can be reflected effectively in reports as needed
    • Works with senior leaders across the organization to understand and analyze the meaning and use of reporting output to facilitate decision support
    • Participates with Finance management, IT security and entity personnel to define and maintain access to reporting, based on agreed access protocols, by the range of authorized personnel
    • Defines and maintains regular report production and distribution under organization protocols
    • Conducts ad hoc reports as requested
    • Trains or provides training for authorized users in report production
  4. Supervise Cost Accounting team
    • Prepares job descriptions, interviews, hires, evaluates, and disciplines direct reports
    • Trains employees, assigns and reviews work, and conducts timely performance appraisals
    • Maintains organization wide work plans for all staff with inter-connected work responsibilities clearly defined
    • Provides ongoing professional feedback to entity employees and entity supervisors concerning work and work results of assigned employees
    • Maintains communication with all staff concerning all activities and involves staff in planning of department activities
    • Ensures professional development of staff. Mentors, guides, and directs staff to ensure their ongoing growth and technical competency
    • Develops annual budget for the department, monitors monthly budget reports, identifies variances and takes appropriate action
  5. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
