Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician assists in the delivery of health care and patient care management working one on one with any practice provider.

Position Duties

  1. Prepares patients for examination and treatment. This includes obtaining patient history, documenting allergies, obtains current vision measurement, maintains medication list, and generating surgical consent forms. Assists the provider in the course of the patient encounter as requested.
  2. Administers medications such as eye drops under physician’s written order.
  3. Performs various diagnostic tests and imaging.
  4. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
  5. Maintains supplies and equipment for treatment and examination.
  6. Travels between offices for clinic coverage as requested.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

1. High school diploma or equivalent; or employees in the role prior to 12/01/2016 must have at least 5 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience with no high school diploma or equivalent.

1. 1 or more years of experience working directly with an Ophthalmologist or Optometrist in a clinical setting.

2. Possess a strong working knowledge of the functionality of electronic health records which includes a high level of computer literacy.

3. Knowledge of examination and diagnostic room procedures, medical equipment, and instruments to administer patient care.

4. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
