Position Summary

Provides culturally sensitive bereavement support and education to families before, during, and after a child has died. This position is responsible for creating a comprehensive bereavement support program at Phoenix Children’s. Works with existing resources to integrate bereavement education and services for the benefit of families and staff. This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining a training program to support staff who care for patients and families through the dying process.

Position Duties

  1. Provides bereavement support, guidance and education to parents/guardians/family members before, during, and after the death of their child.
    • Any family whose child has seen a Phoenix Children`s provider is eligible for these support services.
    • Referrals from the community are taken on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Plans and facilitates support groups for family members.
    • Participates in planning and presentation of grief support groups and educational workshops.
  3. Participates in planning, implementing and evaluating memorial programs at Phoenix Children’s
  4. Works closely with the various medical teams to follow up on families in need of bereavement services.
    • Provides information and referral services to those families who will require psychiatric intervention or therapy.
  5. Contributes to the overall program advancement through the development of educational material, training of staff caring for children, and documentation of established protocols.
  6. Participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes, studies, quality assurance studies, and program initiatives.
  7. Participates in and contributes to assigned committees, task forces, and special projects. Attends in-services and education programs to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
