Position Summary

Posting Note: Phoenix Children's Division of Otolaryngology is looking to add a Physician Assistant to the team.
• • This is a full-time position
• This position is for a 10-hour shift, 4 days a week
• This position is primarily outpatient clinic; potential consults when new hospitals open
• Workday includes: Monday – Friday various days, some flexibility
• Management of ENT concerns in medically complex pediatric patients
• Procedures for inpatient/outpatient include debridement of ear canals, frenotomy, rigid nasal endoscopies, flexible laryngoscopies, foreign body removal (ear and nose), tracheoscopies, nasal cautery, and more.
• This is a very busy surgical practice.
• Prefer at least one year of PA experience in pediatrics or surgical specialty
• Must be able to work autonomously
• If no ENT experience, we are willing to train but must also be willing to self-educate


Inpatient:
1. Includes H & Ps, consults, rounding on ENT pediatric patients in all units, post-op care of patients, and procedures.
2. Management of ENT concerns in medically complex pediatric patients, tracheostomies, post-operative patients, and complex airway patients.
3. Occasional OR assist with head and neck cases and other procedures
4. You will be working alongside residents, fellows, APPs, and attendings; must have good communication and interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary setting.
5. Call requirements:
a. You will be responding to hospital and parent phone calls; 3pm-7am
b. 2-3 nights per month, Monday-Friday, variable

Clinic:
1. Clinic office locations: Main Campus-Phoenix, Mesa, Mercy Gilbert, Estrella, Arrowhead, Avondale
2. Clinic hours 8am – 4pm
3. Obtain H & Ps, complete physical assessments, in-office procedures, order and review diagnostic testing, multidisciplinary planning, and treat pediatric ENT patients.
4. Assist in reviewing provider health messages

This position works in collaboration with the attending physicians and works within their scope of practice to provide excellent clinical care for patients. Plays a critical role in the patient family medical team. Professional who may practice in hospital’s inpatient and/or outpatient setting.

Position Duties

  1. Conducts comprehensive health history, physical assessments and plans for infants, children and young adults with acute and chronic health conditions. Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients.
  2. Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
  3. Formulates family centered plan of care. Performs daily documents as necessary. Collaborated and coordinated care with other team members.
  4. Collects data and analyzes when necessary.
  5. Performs any needed advanced procedures that are associated with their credentialing process DOP.
  6. Utilizes the most up to date and evidence based practice for plan of care and able to alter the plan according to family needs and effectiveness or plan.
  7. Serves as an educational resource to patient/family/ nursing staff/ provider team and other health care teams as needed.
  8. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competences, certifying body renewals, seeking educational offerings when available, and participates in the professional development of others which may include Advanced Practice Provider students, Residents and Medical Students. Acts as a preceptor/mentor for those new in department.
  9. Demonstrates commitment to patient safety by bring up concerns in appropriate manner, reporting through appropriate channels, and ensuring change of practice when necessary. Demonstrates shared accountability of safe practice.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
