Position Summary

This position is the liaison between the hospital and community agencies (EMS partners) with regard to coordination of patient care. This position assists in the development of PC protocols and processes and educates agencies on established protocols. This position raises awareness of the PC Emergency Services through community outreach efforts.

Position Duties

  1. Provides training and education to EMS partner staff.
    • a) Provides initial and ongoing education and competency validation to various EMS staffs, as well as maintenance and documentation of education and training records.
    • b) Coordinates emergency drills, communicates with AzDHS and attends statutory committee meetings.
  2. Assists in the maintenance of contracts and ongoing communications with agencies; coordinates and collaborates with Legal/Risk departments.
  3. Coordinates and facilitates EMS partner communication.
    • a) Attends and active participation on state meetings related to EMS operations.
    • b) Correlates and submits requested data and/or reports.
    • c) Contributes to positive collaborative relationships and communication, with internal and external customers.
  4. Coordinates with pharmacy refill of narcotic medication with EMS partners.
  5. Responsible for Communication equipment used with EMS partners.
    • a) Collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate communication equipment is available and functional.
    • b) Maintains records, as needed.
  6. Quality Assurance
    • a) Audits records per guidelines/protocols.
    • b) Provides feedback to PC staff and EMS providers.
    • c) Coordinates and participates in pre-hospital quality management efforts related to pre-hospital staff and functions.
    • d) Maintains and coordinates requirements for base station certification/re-certification.
    • e) Provides follow-up on EMS provider exposure to communicable diseases
    • f) Maintains and assists with data collection and analysis.
  7. Coordinates and participates in Community Outreach activities.
    • a) Provides education, as needed and requested.
    • b) Coordinates activities related to EMS Week, PC sponsored EMS conferences, etc.
    • c) Coordinates on-campus activities, in conjunction with Injury Prevention and/or Trauma as appropriate.
  8. Coordinates hospital-based paramedic student education rotation and continuing education experiences and assists Emergency Department Educators with ongoing education related to pre-hospital and serves as a content and clinical expert for the Emergency Department Technicians and Paramedics.
  9. Assists with clinical care in the Emergency Department including but not limited to:
    • a) Providing bedside clinical care within their defined licensure scope.
    • b) Assisting real-time with critical transfers.
    • c) Providing expertise and recommendations to the clinical team.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

1. Two (2) year (ADN) degree in Nursing, a four (4) year degree (BSN) in Nursing, a diploma Nursing degree OR completion of a Paramedic Program accredited by the CAAHEP.

1. 5 or more years of Emergency Medicine or pre-hospital experience.

1. Current PALS and ACLS from American Heart Association, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

2. Current State of Arizona RN license or an RN license from a compact state with multistate privileges or the ability to establish licensure according to Arizona law prior to start date, OR current (NREMT) Paramedic certification/license.

3. Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association or obtain within 60 days of employment.

4. Current ENPC and TNCC or other qualifying trauma course or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
