Position Summary

Posting Note: Phoenix Children’s is recruiting for an Evening Lab Supervisor to join our team at the Thomas Main Lab located in downtown Phoenix. $7500 sign on bonus is offered. This is an onsite, full-time, salaried position. The Evening Supervisor will work closely with the Day Supervisor, Technical Specialists, and MD/PhD Section Directors to ensure efficient operational, quality, financial, and personnel management activities in the Core Laboratory with emphasis in Chemistry and Special Chemistry sections. This position will have 12-15 direct reports and requires a minimum of 4 years of clinical lab experience in Chemistry as well as ASCP certification.

This position works collaboratively with section director, manager, and leadership team to provide technical supervision for assigned staff to ensure high quality daily technical operations. Achieve and comply with established operating budget, quality control, inventory management and regulatory standards. This position receives managerial review of completed work activities from Laboratory Manager.

Position Duties

  1. Performs patient testing, quality control testing, and instrument maintenance procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with policies, regulations, and safety guidelines for safe work practices.
  2. Supervises daily technical operations of laboratory section by monitoring quality and effectiveness of work flow, problem resolution, trouble shooting issues, and processes to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements.
  3. Supervises work activities of assigned staff to ensure achievement of established goals, objectives, and outcomes; provides guidance, mentors, and direction as appropriate for ongoing staff development.
  4. Develops and maintains policies and guidelines; employs policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards to validate current practice requirements and support of overall organizational values and mission.
  5. Participates in hospital and department operational and quality improvement initiatives; proactive evaluates systems, practices, and assists to create and implement changes to increase and enhance the effectiveness of the operations. Also, participates in organizational committees as pertinent.
  6. Ensures adherence to departmental operating and capital budgets.
  7. Maintains professional and technical competency through constantly pursuing knowledge and self-improvement and remaining apprised of current trends, developments and awareness of latest technology and practices to improve outcomes.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
