Position Summary

This position coordinates, develops, implements, and evaluates hospital-wide volunteer programs within a family-centered care model. Monitors and evaluates existing programs and services to increase overall volunteerism that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of Phoenix Children’s Hospital. This position also oversees all functions associated with recruitment, retention and recognition of volunteers.

Position Duties

  • Volunteer Management and Facilitation
    1. Applies knowledge, skills, and understanding of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of managing volunteers, including coaching, counseling, selecting, and initiating correcting action, up to and including termination, to ensure understanding and ongoing demonstration of the Hospital's values.
    2. Coordinates activities associated with volunteer placement, including, but not limited to, screening applications for qualified candidates and potential volunteer groups, interviewing applicants and groups to assess skills, assessing appropriate match with hospital needs, and ensuring appropriate training and education that is documented in files. Evaluates individuals and groups and documents evaluations in files.
    3. Develops and maintains a communication system with community volunteers to ensure ongoing partnerships, collaboration, and timely notification of event logistics.
    4. Maintains all records and files of volunteers, corporations, and organizations to ensure data is stored in an organized, searchable, and reportable method. Ensures all volunteer records and files are current with necessary information required by regulatory agencies.
    5. Participates in planning, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing retention and recognition program for volunteers
  • Budget
    Makes recommendations for budget preparation.
  • Program Evaluation
    1. Initiates comprehensive volunteer needs assessment to include Hospital employees and community groups and organizations to identify opportunities for increased service levels, improved volunteer retention rates, improved customer service, and increased visibility in the community.
    2. Researches and develops new and innovative volunteer programs and services that are measurable, outcome-driven, and evidence-based.
    3. Works closely with volunteers and employees to identify performance expectations and associated behaviors of volunteers representing the Hospital to ensure solutions contribute to improved performance and optimal outcomes.
    4. Prepares a variety of management and activity reports to provide information, trends, and statistics regarding community and corporate volunteerism.
  • Outreach
    1. Develops and coordinates presentations for targeted corporations, organizations, groups, and interested individuals to increase community volunteer data base and awareness of the Hospital. Ensures presentations are professional, accurate, innovative, and educational.
    2. Works in conjunction with Communications, Foundation, Community Outreach, and other departments to prioritize the Hospital's participation in events and volunteer needs.
  • Benchmarking and Development
    1. Maintains professional and technical competency through constantly pursuing knowledge and self-improvement by remaining appraised of volunteer management, pediatric healthcare delivery trends, and volunteer trends.
    2. Plans and coordinates the community volunteer program, including the recruitment, retention, and recognition program.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
