Position Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating information to support timely and accurate registration for admissions, direct admissions, internal transfers, and external transfers to Phoenix Children`s. Responsibilities include verifying patient demographics, insurance, and initiating authorization notifications for inpatient/outpatient admissions or status changes. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with clinical staff, maintaining accurate registration, and ensuring effective communication to facilitate patient care.

Position Duties

  • Accurately documents all information in the appropriate field and/or system.
    1. Accurately reviews insurance requirements and initiates authorization notification / verification for ED, Inpatient, Observation, Behavioral, SDC, CCBD, and PEMU admits.

    2. Consistently utilizes an automated verification tool, insurance carrier websites, or by phone for verification and notification.

    3. Updates patient accounts to reflect the correct admission status based on physicians` orders. Accurately completes all status changes in appropriate system.

    4. Accurately scans registration documents and updates demographic/insurance information in the appropriate fields and notates accounts.

    5. Maintains accuracy when entering demographic and insurance information in the system.

    6. Prioritizes workload from e-mails, faxes, and various systems (SCM, Teletracking Transfer center, Quanum, and Bedboard)

    7. Creates pre-admission accounts for all unscheduled incoming patients.

    8. Creates expected emergency department account visits for patients/traumas.

    9. Creates ED expected/fast pass patient accounts.

    10. Creates and completes patient account transfer updates from multiple PC facilities and outside facilities.

    11. Creates Direct OR patient accounts for emergent surgery cases.

    12. Performs efficient and orderly registration of all patients and admissions.

    13. Updates trauma names after hours per patient information change form.

    14. Establishes and maintains a multi-tasking mentality in an effort to produce consistently throughout a twelve-hour period each day.

    15. Utilizes sound judgement and analytical skills to ensure positive financial outcomes on all assigned accounts.

    16. Participates in a variety of unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels.
  • Collaborates with Patient Placement Coordinator to ensure successful registration functions are complete.
  • Courteously communicates via teams, vocera, and/or emails and answers all questions in a timely manner. Maintains a positive working relationship with insurance companies, clinical personnel, co-workers, and management to promote teamwork, cooperation, and a positive public image for PC.
  • Uses system-generated reports to view, inspect, and resolve accounts as they become available on a daily basis.
  • Maintains a positive, professional work relationship with patient/guarantors, insurance companies, clinical personnel, co-workers, and management to promote teamwork, collaboration, and a positive public image for PC.
  • Participates in a variety of unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
