Position Summary

Coordinates and oversees the daily operational activities of the Animal Assisted Therapy Program, including both the volunteer teams and facility dog teams, to ensure operations achieve and comply with established objectives and goals.

Position Duties

  1. Program Development and Facilitation
    • Manages and develops Animal Assisted Therapy volunteers, including their recruitment, assessment support, training, and succession planning.
    • Facilitates the training and registration of volunteers and therapy animals. Ensures all required documents are current and in file.
    • Oversees the program development and facilitation of the facility dog program.
    • Coordinates visits by either volunteer teams or facility dog teams based on referral reasons and other assessment tools available.
    • Facilitates visits from family pets with medical approval and supervision.
  2. Program Evaluation
    • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the effectiveness of Animal Assisted Therapy programs to ensure efforts are measurable, outcome-driven, evidence based and conform to all safety and infection control policies.
    • Researches new and innovative Animal Assisted Therapy programs and services based on assessment process targeted for health needs of children.
  3. Staff
    • Acts as a resource to staff in the area of pet therapy policy and procedures, working to ensure that development and review systems include appropriate literature search and benchmarking to reflect standards.
    • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the effectiveness of Animal Assisted Therapy programs to ensure efforts are measurable, outcome-driven, and evidence based.
    • Researches new and innovative Animal Assisted Therapy programs and services based on assessment process targeted for health needs of children.
  4. Collaboration and Development
    • Collaborates with Pet Partners, Therapy Dog International, and other related organizations to stay current on research and trends.
    • Engages in professional development and benchmarking activities with other programs related to facility dog programming in hospitals.
  5. Outreach
    • Coordinates the development and distribution of Animal Assisted Therapy Program communications and publications.
  6. Fundraising
    • Assists with fundraising activities and develops required reports for sustained funding.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
