The Arrowhead Pharmacy Services Manager is responsible for managing daily operational and clinical activities of the Arrowhead Inpatient Pharmacy along with pharmacy oversight for the West Valley specialty clinics, urgent cares, and infusion center. Directly manages clinical pharmacists, interns, pharmacy technicians, and students. This position is responsible for all human resource (HR) management functions of direct reports. As the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC), this individual is responsible for working with other pharmacy leaders to prioritize, plan, and appropriately allocate resources needed to meet key departmental and facility initiatives. This position reports directly to the West Valley Associate Chief Nursing officer while receiving supervision from the Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Operations and Director of Clinical Pharmacy, Education, and Research.

Position Duties

  1. Actively leads daily inpatient pharmacy operations to maintain department quality control, regulatory compliance, and safe medication management. Ensures appropriate staffing levels to provide safe and effective patient care.
    • a. Collaborates with pharmacy operations leads, supervisors, managers and directors across the system to coordinate pharmacist and technician schedules in order to provide appropriate staffing models.
    • b. Creates, maintains and modifies pharmacist roles and responsibilities to align with clinical and professional duties.
    • a. Maintains competency as a clinical pharmacist to be able to support staffing roles in times of need.
  2. Plans, executes, and supports the pharmacy strategy of Phoenix Children`s throughout Arrowhead and the West Valley.
    • a. Collaborates between the Pharmacy and Arrowhead/West Valley leadership teams to ensure staffing models efficiently utilize resources to provide maximum productivity and deliver high quality, patient-centered, pharmaceutical care. Monitors and coordinates adjustments to workflow patterns as needed.
    • b. Supports and advocates for the continued advancement of the role of clinical pharmacy throughout the facility.
    • c. Leads and supports standardization initiatives across Arrowhead and the Pharmacy department.
    • d. Develops and supports departmental data analysis to produce key performance metrics to promote ongoing financial, compliance, operational and clinical progress.
    • e. Attends and participates in department and organizational leadership trainings.
  3. Provides guidance and direction to pharmacy staff to assist them in their professional development
    • a. Completes regular 1:1 check-ins, operational/clinical training (as needed), quarterly development plan and annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
    • b. Supports the advancement of pharmacist in the Clinical Pharmacist Professional Development Plan
    • c. Monitors staff adherence to departmental, institutional, regulatory, and other applicable policies and procedures including but not limited to LMS modules, CODE response and REMS training.
    • d. Assists with the hiring, staffing, and promotion of department employees.
  4. Monitors and is accountable for the inpatient pharmacy compliance with all state and federal regulations.
    • a. Completes annual controlled substance inventory and coordinates compliance activities with the Pharmacy Compliance Manager.
    • b. Completes all compliance documentation needed for annual Board of Pharmacy inspections.
    • c. Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) for the Arrowhead Hospital and DEA permits.
    • d. Assists in compliance walks for associated Arrowhead/West Valley facilities.
  5. Leads the development, implementation, and execution of departmental goals.
    • a. Develops individual and facility-specific goals to align with the department and system-wide initiatives.
    • b. Leads departmental operational, clinical, quality, safety, and financial goals for the hospital and associated Arrowhead/West Valley clinics.
    • c. Assists the West Valley Associate Chief Nursing Officer achieve standardized, organizational performance goals and outcomes.
  6. Provides day-to-day clinical and operational support of the Arrowhead CCBD & Infusion Center.
  7. Actively participates in departmental education activities to support the development and advancement of clinical pharmacists, residents, interns, and students.
  8. Acts as liaison between the pharmacy, medical, nursing and hospital staff for issues pertaining to Arrowhead pharmacy services.
    • a. Responds in a timely manner to inquiries and proactively provides solutions to demonstrate Phoenix Children’s values of excellence in service and clinical care.
  9. Effectively communicates concerns, addresses patient needs and relays pertinent information to enhance continuity of care
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
