Position Summary
The position calls for a detail-oriented individual to join the Business Operations Team in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This position is pivotal to assisting in the management of all business aspects of clinical and non-clinical operations of the department, including but not limited to monthly profit and loss financial reviews, requests for equipment/supplies/labor, data analysis, contracting for supplies and services, vendor management, process improvement, billing/invoicing, and new business development activities. Assists in budget preparations (capital, operational, productivity) for all assigned cost centers. Assists in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures. Supervises employees, provides mentoring, and creates opportunities for training.

Position Duties
- Develops and maintains monthly financial reports; develops monthly Business Operations summaries and presents findings to senior laboratory leadership team.
- Provides a data analytics service; identifies data sources; aggregates and validates data; designs adhoc and routine reports; creates visual dashboards.
- Reviews contracts for reference send out laboratory testing (Lab Services Agreements) in close collaboration with Lab, Supply Chain, and Legal teams.
- Supervises and motivates employees; evaluates their performance, delivering positive and/or negative feedback, and addresses any shortcomings.
- Develops and maintains processes and policies for laboratory stewardship (test utilization and reference lab management); provides insights on scaling outreach testing portfolio and identifies new business development opportunities. Develops process maps and value stream mapping when needed to assist in understanding current/future state business and operational processes; provides insights to improve existing business team processes.
- Assists leadership in business planning and proforma development for operational, capital, and/or labor initiatives; provides insights for growth in services, revenue, and profitability. Assist in budget preparations (capital, operational, productivity) for all department cost centers.
- Assists leadership in Monthly Operating Report (MOR) meetings with Finance to review variances in revenue, expenses, and operating margin. Assist in creating and maintaining a vendor database in close collaboration with Supply Chain and Legal teams. Assist in the review of Laboratory billing practices, charge code (CPT, etc) builds, and billing compliance in close collaboration with Revenue Cycle, Managed Care, and Compliance teams.
- Maintains professional and technical competency in all aspects of business operations, data analytics, contract reviews and/or billing and coding by continually pursuing training and remaining cognizant of current trends in practices and technology to improve outcomes.
