Position Summary

Responsible for the oversight of the accounting and financial reporting function for grants, research projects, and the foundation as well as accounting personnel. In conjunction with the Manager General Accounting & Reporting, responsible for all general ledger activity and financial reporting for PCH and subsidiaries.

Position Duties

  1. Provides leadership, direction and training to accounting team.
  2. Reviews and approves documentation prepared by accounting team for monthly financial statement preparation (i.e. journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.).
  3. Maintains a strong focus on process improvement opportunities and leads projects to increase the efficiency and/or effectiveness of the department.
  4. Maintains close coordination and communication with the Foundation fund raising management to identify the need for creation and maintenance of separate restricted funds to match the segregation of funds as required by donor gifts.
  5. Interacts as lead representative of Accounting with the Research Administration Department, Information Technology, and the Foundation to ensure accurately and timely development of procedures and reports needed to manage and report grants, research and other restricted funds according to strict sponsor/donor guidelines.
  6. Serves as lead Accounting resource in interacting with external auditors for all financial activities related to the Foundation or research grants, including the preparation of schedules needed for the Uniform Guidance audit.
  7. Works closely with the Director on optimization of ERP and GL system to drive efficient and effective processes in addition to timely and accurate period close and financial reporting.
  8. Makes recommendations to the Director or Controller for new policies and procedures and identify areas to improve efficiency and effectiveness of department.
  9. Assists in developing the annual capital and operating budget as well as preparation for the long range forecast.
  10. Provides technical assistance to the Foundation and Research/Grants leadership in areas of financial control, financial reporting, variance analysis and compliance with grant and contract requirements.
  11. Maintains technical and professional proficiency with respect to Foundation and Research/Grants accounting in accordance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance audit, NIH and other research requirements.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
