This position performs a variety of ultrasound imaging procedures to providedata for diagnosis and monitoring of disease and injuries in accordance withall applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements. Requirescompetency in a variety of equipment and technology. Performs duties in arange of acute care pediatric-centered settings.

1. Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients for interpretation by a radiologist. Determines proper technique and positioning to ensure optimal results in accordance with all applicable standards, protocols, and procedures. Follows department triage guidelines based on patient acuity and exam prioritization. Maintains a safe environment for patients and families, and advocates appropriately. Identifies and troubleshoots machine malfunctions to ensure continuous proper and safe operations of ultrasound equipment. Reports service needs and preventive maintenance issues as appropriate.
2. Creates a detailed report to include pertinent medical history, ultrasound findings, and measurements for presentation to interpreting physicians. Report is clear, concise, and grammatically correct.
3. Interacts professionally and projects a positive image of the ultrasound team. Provides ultrasound safety information to patients, families, and all other affected parties to ensure thorough understanding of the study being performed.
4. Maintains professional and technical competency through the continual pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement by remaining apprised of current literature, practices, and new developments in the field of ultrasound.
5. Performs finalizing functions using radiology information system (RIS) to facilitate timely and accurate results and charge capture. Archives records in accordance with Radiologist(s) specifications.
6. Routinely protocols ultrasound orders for appropriateness and follows the chain of command to make necessary corrections. Regularly seeks and participates in quality initiatives to continually provide exceptional family centered care and provide high quality diagnostic ultrasound exams. When necessary, communicates with radiology clinical and administrative leadership to facilitate process improvements.
7. Participates in re-stocking and room turn over to provide for efficient, effective, and safe department operations. Follows established infection prevention policies and procedures for proper transducer cleaning.
8. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
