This position is responsible for managing daily operations of the East Valley Inpatient Pharmacy, associated clinics, and departments serviced by the Inpatient Pharmacy. Directly manages inpatient pharmacy supervisors, pharmacists, technicians, interns, and students while being responsible for human resource management functions of direct reports. As a leader within the pharmacy, this individual is responsible for working with other pharmacy leaders to prioritize, plan and appropriately allocate resources needed to meet key departmental and facility initiatives. This position reports directly to the East Valley Associate Chief Nursing officer while receiving supervision from the Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Operations and Director of Clinical Pharmacy, Education, and Research.

Position Duties

  1. Actively leads daily inpatient pharmacy operations to maintain department quality control, regulatory compliance, and safe medication management. Ensures appropriate staffing levels to provide safe and effective patient care.
    • a.Collaborates with other pharmacy leaders to complete pharmacist and technician schedules in a timely manner.
    • b.Creates and maintains job duties for technician and pharmacist roles.
  2. Plans, executes, and supports the pharmacy strategy of Phoenix Children`s Hospital throughout the East Valley.
    • a.Works within the Pharmacy and East Valley leadership teams to ensure staffing models efficiently utilize resources to provide maximum productivity and deliver high quality, patient-centered, pharmaceutical care. Monitors and coordinates adjustments to workflow patterns as needed.
    • b.Supports and advocates for the continued advancement of the role of clinical pharmacy throughout the facility.
    • c.Leads and supports standardization initiatives across the East Valley and the Pharmacy department.
    • d.Develops and supports departmental data analysis to produce key performance metrics to promote ongoing financial, compliance, operational and clinical progress
  3. Provides guidance and direction to pharmacy staff to assist them in their professional development
    • a. Completes performance evaluations for direct reports while supporting staff members professional development plans and assures staff adherence to established departmental policies and procedures.
    • b. Monitors staff adherence to departmental, institutional, regulatory, and other applicable policies and procedures while initiating corrective action when appropriate.
    • c. Assists with the hiring, staffing, promotion, corrective action, and discharge of department employees.
  4. Oversees and assures compliance and accountability of controlled substances and according to state and federal regulations and completes all documentation needed for annual Board of Pharmacy inspections. Serves as the Designated Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) for the IP Hospital/East Valley Pharmacy License and DEA permits and provides indirect oversight for remote East Valley campus activities.
  5. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of department`s operations, clinical and financial goals. Assures individual goals coincide with the department and hospital goals.
  6. Responsible for assisting the East Valley Associate Chief Nursing Officer to achieve organizational goals by promoting the development, preparation, implementation, and attainment of departmental goals, policies/procedures, and projects to improve medication safety, quality assurance, accessibility of inpatient pharmacy and East Valley campus clinic services.
  7. In collaboration with the Manager, Pharmacy Services – CCBD & Infusion Centers, provides day-to-day clinical and operational support of the East Valley Infusion Center.
  8. Actively participates in departmental education activities to support the development and advancement of pharmacy residents, interns, and students.
  9. Acts as liaison between the pharmacy, medical, nursing and hospital staff for issues pertaining to inpatient and East Valley clinic(s) pharmacy services.
  10. Effectively communicates problems, patient needs and pertinent information to enhance continuity of care. Respond promptly to all modes of communication within the department and hospital and proactively solves problems. Answers phones promptly and politely demonstrating PCH Values of excellence in clinical care, service and communication at all times.
  11. Maintains competency as a clinical pharmacist to be able to support staffing roles in times of need.
  12. Supports quality assurance and medication safety initiatives throughout the department and throughout the facility.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
