Senior Coder - Professional Services Coding
Position Details
Position Summary
This position receives supervision from the Professional Service Coding Manager to assign, per coding guidelines, the current ICD10 diagnosis and CPT-4 procedure codes for professional services. Completes and assists in monitoring coding for all accounts on a daily basis to stay consistent with department productivity standards/goals. Follows up on accounts needing coding queries or documentation completion by clinicians or medical staff. Also assists in performing internal coding quality reviews to ensure compliance with AMA/CMS coding guidelines, definitions and coding policies. This position also provides training and education to the Coding Staff and Medical Staff, and maintains current department policies related to coding and abstracting. This position assists with coding production as needed, reviews and resolves coding issues related to billing, researches complex coding issues, and participates in process improvement related to coding and abstracting.
Position Duties

Coding focused on accuracy in primary divisions. Assisting the Coding Leadership to ensure all organizational/team goals are being met.
Maintains a consistent coding accuracy rate of 90% or better. Assigns CPT-Procedures, ICD-10diagnosis codes utilizing current ICD and CPT4 coding classification systems in compliance with current ICD Official Guidelines and CPT guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Will assist in performs internal coding and documentation quality reviews of professional coding of medical records to verify the accuracy and specificity of assigned codes in accordance with compliance with the current version of ICD/CPT Official Guidelines for Coding and coding policies. -
Communicates with Providers.
Communicates with providers the medical record documentation requirements for accurate, complete, and compliant documentation in accordance with accepted standards of practice and current coding guidelines. -
Staying Current with Coding Changes
Assists the manager in maintaining and updating the Professional Coding policies and guidelines regarding coding and abstracting to reflect current practices and ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations -
Participates in Education of Coding staff.
Provides necessary training and education to the Coding Staff individually and/or as a group, as appropriate. -
Training new team members on Phoenix Children's Systems
Mentors and trains newly hired Coders as well as, provide ongoing training and cross-training of the Coding staff. -
Focuses on assigned divisions lag days and production.
Communicates timely to the Coding Leadership and assigned staff for all production and quality goals -
Works assigned divisions denials.
Acts as a resource to team members for all coding related questions. Responds in a timely manner to e-mail, bill edits, or other requests. Reviews accounts when requested by the Physician Revenue Cycle Department and other divisions to research and resolve coding issues related to billing. -
Maintains coding certification, and provides updates on current coding changes.
Maintains professional certification and technical competency by attending education and training activities sponsored through the hospital, professional associations, and through independent study. Keeps apprised of current trends, developments and awareness of coding changes. -
Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
