Position Summary

Posting Note: Phoenix Children’s Rheumatology is the only pediatric Rheumatology Division in the state of Arizona. The Medical Assistant for Rheumatology will perform both administrative and clinical duties. Duties include answering calls coming into the clinical line, working with our pre access team to assure authorizations are in place for specialty medications, chart prep for clinic, patient intake, running clinic alongside our providers (both in person and telemedicine clinics). Address: 1919 East Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016 Schedule: Monday -Friday 8:00 - 5:00 Requires 5 years of expereince or a CMA or RMA certification, or interest in obtaining one of these certifications within 90 days of employment

This position works under the direction of a licensed health care professional and performs various clinical and administrative tasks for the assigned area.

Position Duties

  1. As directed by a physician, performs or assists with procedures such as electrocardiogram, pulmonary function, suture and staple removal, dressing changes, and others.
  2. Collects laboratory specimens (including blood specimens), performs point of care testing, and disposes of bio-hazardous materials.
  3. Demonstrates infection control standards related to hand washing and standard precautions.
  4. Prepares and administers medications, communicates telephone prescriptions to pharmacies, and processes medication refills as directed by a physician.
  5. Prepares and instructs patients about examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, special diets, and health maintenance.
  6. Records and communicates patient related information, including vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, signs, and symptoms, to the physician or licensed health care provider.
  7. Removes sutures and changes dressings.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
