Position Summary

Posting Note: PRN Position

This position processes all outgoing and incoming referrals for PCP office with some specialty areas. It secures and tracks prior authorizations and assists with inpatient referrals and authorizations on occasion.

Position Duties

  1. Processes Referrals to specialty areas for PCP physicians or consulting physicians.
    • Processes Referrals to specialty areas for PCP physicians or consulting physicians.
    • Processes Referrals to specialty areas for PCP physicians or consulting physicians.
    • Contacts insurance companies for authorization of procedures and specialty appointments. Calls specialty offices to coordinate appointments. Completes referrals on paper or electronically. Faxes referrals to specialty areas. Reviews referrals for accuracy
    • and ensure ICD-9 codes, signatures, dates and times are on forms.
  2. Telephone Calls
    • Answers incoming phone calls regarding questions about referrals. Calls patients to advise their referral is complete. Coordinates any tasks by telephone or in person.
  3. Tracks authorizations
    • Completes authorization requests and sends to insurance company. Communicates with insurance company regarding authorizations and quick processing.
  4. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
