Position Summary

Posting Note: Phoenix Children’s Hospital has an opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner interested in joining one of the most respected teams in the region in serving children who are suspected victims of child maltreatment, with the Division of Child Protection. Provide expert subspecialty care in the inpatient and outpatient setting as a member of the Division of Child Protection• Play a significant role in serving as a resource for Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Maricopa County• Maintain and expand services at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Maricopa Medical Center as well as three advocacy sites – ChildHelp Children’s Advocacy Center of Arizona, Southwest Family Advocacy Center, and Mesa Family Advocacy Center.• Work with a child protection team of Pediatricians, Nurse Practitioners, dedicated Forensic Interviewers plus excellent support staff in a manner that fulfills the strategic goals of PCH while complying with state and federal laws and accreditation standards related safety and risk management•Help facilitate the advancement of the SANE RN program. As a dedicated pediatric hospital, a level-one trauma center and home to one of the largest PICU’s in the Southwest, Phoenix Children’s sees a greater concentration of abuse victims than other area hospitals. As a result, its staff members gain a wealth of experience in recognizing the signs of abuse and neglect and shaping the future of this important field. Current Arizona NP License or ability to obtain prior to employment Pediatric Nurse Practitioner preferred, Forensic experience preferred and significant interest in Child Protection

This position works in collaboration with the attending physicians and works within their scope of practice to provide excellent clinical care for patients. Plays a critical role in the patient family medical team. Professional who may practice in hospital’s inpatient and/or outpatient setting.

Position Duties

  1. Conducts comprehensive health history, physical assessments and plans for infants, children and young adults with acute and chronic health conditions. Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients.
  2. Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
  3. Formulates family centered plan of care. Performs daily documents as necessary. Collaborated and coordinated care with other team members.
  4. Collects data and analyzes when necessary.
  5. Performs any needed advanced procedures that are associated with their credentialing process DOP.
  6. Utilizes the most up to date and evidence based practice for plan of care and able to alter the plan according to family needs and effectiveness or plan.
  7. Serves as an educational resource to patient/family/ nursing staff/ provider team and other health care teams as needed.
  8. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competences, certifying body renewals, seeking educational offerings when available, and participates in the professional development of others which may include Advanced Practice Provider students, Residents and Medical Students. Acts as a preceptor/mentor for those new in department.
  9. Demonstrates commitment to patient safety by bring up concerns in appropriate manner, reporting through appropriate channels, and ensuring change of practice when necessary. Demonstrates shared accountability of safe practice.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
