Position Summary
Posting Note: This position is for out-patient.
In addition to their daily dietitian duties and responsibilities, the Lead Pediatric Dietitian (LPD) will assist in various activities of the department/division, will be a primary contact for their team, and provide direction for dietitian issues under the Manager.

Position Duties
-
Work as a Pediatric Dietitian as needed to support staffing levels and routinely perform the duties and functions in the role with proficiency.
- Provides nutrition care to patients/families over a broad spectrum of complexities of pediatric nutritional conditions/disorders, ages and developmental stages. Demonstrates expertise in service line. Applies effective decision making, critical thinking and problem solving skills in the patient care setting.
- Assesses the nutritional needs of patients, develops and implements an effective MNT plan of care, recommends and implements effective interventions and monitors/evaluates nutrition care outcomes for patients in a timely manner. Uses PCH standards of care and evidence-based practice guidelines when providing care to patients. Develops nutrition plan of care that is integrated with the patient’s total health care needs and includes the psychosocial, ethnic, cultural and religious needs of the patient/family. Responds to and is sensitive to individual differences, varying socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

- Assumes a proactive role with patient/family education in the practice setting. Provides nutrition education to patients/families by identifying preferred learning style and then selecting technique, tools and materials which promote/enhance learning. Intuitively adapts teaching style to facilitate learning and behavior modification for individual patients/families. Proactively evaluates practice standards and delivery systems to identify opportunities for improvement and participates/supports change that enhances care, treatment and services.
- Documents nutrition care plans and recommendations accurately, concisely and adheres to documentation policies and standards. Ensures timely availability of information for inclusion in the interdisciplinary care plan.
- Provide follow-up evaluation through office visits or nutrition classes as applicable.
- Serves as a resource person for department/division staff and patients regarding nutrition information.

Acts as a role model by displaying exemplary, compassionate and professional behavior, motivating staff to provide excellent, patient-focused service. Serves as daily operational resource to staff and in the management of supplies and equipment.
- Develops, directs, and maintains dietitian work schedules and daily workflow to ensure fairness, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- May handle scheduling conflicts for dietitians and serve as the departmental liaison with division schedulers to resolve issues and clarify practices.

Support the department/division leadership and manager to meet the department and hospital strategic goals by assisting in the development of procedures, policies and guidelines for operations.Participates in the hiring process and provides input for performance evaluations for staff.
- Assists in the development of appropriate guidelines and protocols to define standards in medical nutrition therapy and treatment as needed.
- Effectively leads and implements assigned projects to completion.
- Identifies, facilitates, monitors and reports on department/division and organization performance improvement projects.
- Participates in hospital and department/division educational and quality initiatives, etc.

Support Manager with administrative duties as assigned.
- Assists in the planning, coordination and execution of team meetings.
- Facilitates training, mentoring, and competency of dietitians, dietetic interns, new employees and/or residents as needed.
- Provides survey-readiness tracers of service line and assists manager in implementation of action plans to address any areas of concern.
- Collaborates with other departments to maintain effective communication channels to ensure optimal outcomes are achieved.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
