Position Summary

The Process Improvement Specialist manages multiple projects within the organization. This position will lead process improvement projects by analyzing data, work systems and flows to find ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs, improve patient satisfaction and translates data into information for managing change and implementing solutions to optimize Phoenix Children’s Hospital Services. This position will work with the Director of Process Optimization to mentor and coach the organization on how to properly execute improvement science methodology such as the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) or Lean Six Sigma; and demonstrate appropriate utilization of the various tools available to drive change.

Position Duties

  1. Serves as a leadership change agent, develops, coaches, and facilitates complex process optimization projects as assigned, in order to achieve measurable and beneficial impacts to the enterprise strategic priorities.
    • Works with organizational leadership to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, improve employee engagement, and/or patient experience.
    • Develops clear project charters with well-defined objectives and obtains executive sponsor sign off for each project.
    • Facilitates project teams effectively to complete process improvement projects throughout the organization.
    • Manages multiple projects concurrently and tracks progress to ensure completed and documented improvements are realized and maintained, and effectively communicates project status and milestones.
    • Develops a clear project closure document with a well-defined list of recommendations, completed interventions, and executive sponsor or operational leader sign-off for each project.
  2. Performs qualitative and quantitative analyses to support attaining project team goals and objectives, trains/coaches members in the use of process improvement principles, methods, and techniques and the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) and Lean continuous improvement processes.
    • Gathers, enters, and analyzes current state work flows, processes and data effectively to identify root-cause and make informed decisions regarding process changes.
    • Identifies improvement opportunities substantiated by data to increase adoption and adherence in key departments, customers, optimized process procedures or work flows to gain efficiencies.
    • Provides technical expertise and maintains proficient knowledge and use of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies and effectively utilizes a broad range of tools to improve processes throughout the organization.
    • Analyzes data effectively to quantify measurable impact of work on financial and operational performance, patient and employee safety and satisfaction, and/or clinical outcomes.
    • Converts data into meaningful, informative presentations and presents clearly, accurately, and effectively to all organizational audiences.
  3. Provides training on Lean subject matter and other process improvement methodologies within the context of assigned projects.
    • Facilitates process improvement training of project team members on Lean and other quality improvement principles; strategic priorities and mapping systems; and cost savings/standardization opportunities within operations.
    • Prepares educational materials and teaches process improvement tools and methodologies for process improvement training as needed throughout the organization.
  4. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
