Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Education Officer/DIO, the Program Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of scholarly activities and training for fellows, residents, medical students and other PCH learners. Responsibilities focus on growing the department's research and academics, including: program/project management and study design; data acquisition, management, maintenance, and linkage; statistical and epidemiologic data analysis; interpretation of results; performance and assistance with literature reviews; assistance with manuscript, presentation, report, IRB protocol, and proposal preparation; and acting as a liaison for learners with PCH leadership, Office of Research, and the IRB. The manager also provides budget oversight, and monitors and approves expenditures for the Learner Research Fund. Organizes, presents, and clarifies financial information to report to PCH Leadership and the finance team. The Program Manager also provides management and coordination for three ongoing Medical Education events: Fellow Orientation, Quality Day, and Academic Excellence Day. Serves as the REDCap administrator for PCH staff and employees including creation and distribution of user names/profiles, education and training on database development, and problem solving and troubleshooting to resolve database errors. This position also provides supervision and direction for quality improvement activities conducted by residents, fellows, and faculty and community physicians in order to obtain Maintenance of Certification Part 4 credit through the American Board of Pediatrics.

Position Duties

  1. Oversight of scholarly activities within Medical Education
    • Provides leadership, management, direction and training of PCH Learners. Responsible for growing the department's research and academics, the manager’s duties include: program/project management; data acquisition, management, maintenance, and linkage; statistical and epidemiologic data analysis; interpretation of results; literature reviews; manuscript, presentation, report, IRB protocol, and proposal preparation; and serving as a liaison for learners with PCH leadership, Office of Research, and the IRB. Implements appropriate practices, procedures, and protocols for all research activities in medical education in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), and Good Clinical Practices (GCP) guidelines. Compiles data for analysis of study outcomes and results. Completes summary reports and all reports required by research study and quality improvement projects.
  2. Management of Learner Research Fund and oversight of Medical Education grant submissions
    • Manages the Learner Research Fund by monitoring and approving expenditures. Reviews monthly financial reports, including study billing, expenditures, and revenue. Works with investigators to assure appropriate study design and data analysis for all medical education grant submissions. Prepares budget analysis form according to study protocol.
  3. Supervises and directs the development and submission of Part 4 MOC quality improvement projects
    • Provides guidance and direction to residents, fellows, and PCH faculty physician in the development of quality improvement projects and completion of MOC Part 4 application. Supports analysis and tracking of data for PCCN, PCMG faculty, fellows and residents in conducting quality improvement activities that qualify for Part 4 Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credit from the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Serve as a member of the PCH MOC Governance Committee. Follows ABP MOC reporting procedures and submits required data to the ABP.
  4. Organizes and plans ongoing Medical Education events focused on learner education and training, and quality improvement and research activities
    • Assists in the supervision and coordination of three ongoing Medical Education events (Fellow Orientation, PCH Quality Day, and Academic Excellence Day). Ensures the completion and timely submission of abstracts for Quality Day and AED. Plans and coordinates the Fellow Orientation to ensure proper onboarding of new fellows.
  5. Serves as the REDCap administrator for Phoenix Children’s Hospital
    • This includes the creation and distribution of usernames/profiles, education and training on database development, and supervision and maintenance of ongoing REDCap databases and/or forms.
  6. Participates in professional development programs to ensure understanding of most current methodologies, practices, and philosophies as applied to quality improvement, maintenance of certification, and research.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
