Position Summary

The Director of Nurse Staffing and Operations serves to support the optimal planning and utilization of staffing resources across nursing services. This role coordinates and collaborates with nursing leadership, staff, and partnering departments to focus on regulatory, quality, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and financial organizational goals related to staffing resources.

Position Duties

  1. Serves as nursing leader for ongoing optimization of scheduling and staffing for nursing.
    • a.Collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure scheduling and staffing software is implemented, adopted, and optimized.
    • b.Functions as nursing liaison with partnering departments to support positive patient outcomes, enhance staff satisfaction, improve patient flow management, align clinical and financial goals, predict patient demand, and optimize productivity in nurse scheduling and staffing.
  2. Utilizes data and evidence-based documents to identify opportunities to gain efficiencies in nurse staffing and scheduling.
    • a.Provides staffing and scheduling data to key organizational leaders related to staff utilization.
    • b.Ongoing analysis and use of patient acuity data to drive decision making related to nurse staffing levels.
    • c.Facilitator of change processes related to nursing resources.
  3. Strategizes opportunities to maximize fiscally responsible staffing programs in nursing.
    • a.Ongoing refinement of nurse staffing programs: core staffing, hire ahead, supplemental staffing, seasonal, other
    • b.Develops and implements staffing plans which support organizational patient safety and quality outcome goals with minimal dependence on premium pay (overtime, contract labor, shift incentives, etc.).
    • c.Ongoing analysis of premium incentives and proposal for prime utilization of financial resources.
  4. Collaborates across service areas to ensure proper staffing levels in order to accommodate timely patient throughput.
  5. Plans, organizes, directs, evaluates, and coordinates administrative nursing areas including, but not limited to house supervisors, centralized staffing office, and utilization of patient sitters.
    • a.Facilitates the professional development of direct reports by assessing learning needs, styles, and barriers.
    • b.Coordinates educational opportunities in conjunction with career progression.
  6. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
