Position Summary

Position Duties

  1. Responsible for effectively leading, developing, implementing, and maintaining staff orientation and training plan and activities for staff and leaders. Assures completion of all training and orientation documentation as required in a timely manner.
  2. Actively oversees and assures compliance and accountability of medications according to state and federal regulations and completes all documentation needed for annual Board of Pharmacy inspections.
    • Assures licenses and permits are current and posted and serves as a contact for the Board of Pharmacy for outpatient pharmacy services.
    • Oversees the final inspection reports and actions to the Board of Pharmacy as required
  3. Actively contributes to the pharmacy department pharmacoeconomic efforts, budgeting and inventory management and implements cost reduction strategies to maintain costs within budget for outpatient pharmacy services.
    • Manages and achieves department cost reduction and expense management goals
    • Prepares budgets for assigned service lines
    • Actively manages non-formulary requests in conjunction with the department leaders
    • Assures availability of pharmaceuticals for patient care
  4. Effectively develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services.
    • Responsible for leading and developing Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures for medication management for all Outpatient Services areas.
    • Serves as an expert for State and Federal Statues, Joint Commission and CMS standards for outpatient areas.
  5. Actively directs all outpatient service area operations and maintains operational, compliance and quality control programs related to medication management.
    • Maintains medication incident reports as appropriate
    • 2 Insures that the department follows The Joint Commission (TJC), federal and state and hospital requirements.
    • Plans for advancement and implementation of Best Practice pharmacy operations
    • Supports and assures compliance of 340B programs in conjunction with the Pharmacy Business Manager Supply Chain staff
  6. Actively participates in assigned hospital and department committees, multidisciplinary teams, and projects, and provides leadership as assigned.
    • Leads Medication Management Teams and process improvement and expansion
    • Serves as Project Manager for designated outpatient operations projects
  7. Responsible for assisting with department development and management of operations strategic planning, goals and objectives that are aligned with organizational metrics.
  8. Directly supervises and insures all HR functions are met to include provision of on time 90 day, annual, periodic and for cause improvement evaluations and competency training for patient care pharmacists, technicians, tech students, pharmacy interns for the outpatient areas.
    • Implements department based and Human Resources reward and recognition programs
    • Actively participates in employee engagement surveys, action planning and execution
    • Actively monitors and completes performance improvement plans for corrective discipline
    • Gives effective and proactive ongoing feedback to direct reports and the staff for successes and improvements needed
  9. Actively and effectively serves as the primary contact and liaison for outpatient pharmacy operations, administrative issues, and requests for customer service support within the organization and provides timely and efficient follow-up, problem resolution and communication to staff and customers.
  10. Performs the duties of a pharmacist as needed
  11. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
