Position Location: Phoenix, AZ
Position: Staff Physician

Job Duties:

1. Provide inpatient hematology/oncology care 9–11 weeks per year and manage outpatient clinics 3–4 days per week, seeing 35–40 patients weekly, ensuring safe transitions of care.
2. Collaborate with pharmacy on safe administration of chemotherapy and immunotherapy; stay current with new therapies, participate in clinical trials, and apply evidence-based practices.
3. Triage new referrals and consults from community providers; offer phone-based consultation services to external clinics, emergency departments, and urgent care settings.
4. Teach and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, and nurse practitioners as faculty at the University of Arizona and Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine; mentor trainees in research and career development.
5. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, and lumbar punctures.
6. Contribute to administrative functions, quality improvement initiatives, and serve on institutional, regional, and national committees to guide clinical practice and policy.
7. Lead and participate in clinical research and scholarly activities; present findings at national and international conferences.
8. Travel: Unanticipated travel within the U.S. for continued medical education, conferences and meetings. Travel to not exceed 3 annual trips.

Job Requirements:

Education Requirements:
• Doctor of Medicine degree, or closely related. Employer will accept foreign equivalent degree if in same field.

Experience Requirements:
• 24 months of experience in job offered, Fellow Physician, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology program, or closely related.

Special skills requirements:

1. Ability to manage inpatient hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplant patients under supervision, including diagnostic workups as well as for leukemias, solid tumors, bone marrow failure syndromes, and bleeding/clotting disorders.
2. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including lumbar punctures and bone marrow aspirations & biopsies using anterior and posterior approaches.
3. Able to participate in acute care and emergency rotations, manage high-acuity cases, and actively respond to code situations, performing CPR and advanced resuscitation techniques.
4. Experience administering routine and urgent immunizations and medications including chemotherapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
5. Proficiency with the following clinical and research software platforms: Epic, OneChart, Prism, CyTOF, Cytobank, Gallios, Biorender, and Tocris.
6. Must have a valid Medical License in the State of Arizona.
7. Must have a valid Certificate in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics.

• Patient Care Services
  
  1) Provide patient care services for which he/she is clinically privileged, including but not limited to:
       a) Provide direct patient care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis
       b) Provide subspecialty consultations and follow-up.
       c) Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures
       d) Provide these services for urgent/ emergent care as necessary
  2) Strive to achieve the best patient and family centered care
  3) Support Hospital’s patient satisfaction goals as well as division’s specific targets
  4) Support and adhere to divisional patient safety and quality of care standards
  5) Practices Contemporary Evidence based medicine or latest experience based medicine
• Divisional Responsibilities
  
  1) Establish and demonstrate effort to achieve annual physician goals and objectives (e.g. individual, division, hospital)
  2) Support the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:
       a) Provide direct supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals for the delivery of inpatient and outpatient services when applicable
       b) Conduct teaching rounds, lectures and conference for trainees
       c) Participate in the teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals assigned to the division
       d) Participate in the postgraduate continuing educational activities of the division
  3) Support the research endeavors of the division including the research initiatives by other members of the division
  4) Support programmatic growth of division
  5) Support satellite efforts of division when appropriate

  2) Physician may conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside of Phoenix Children's, particularly if these activities support divisional clinical and teaching programs/ initiatives.
  3) Physician shall represent Phoenix Children's in the medical and business communities and before the general public in a professional manner
  4) The following physical and mental skills are essential to the physician’s ability to successfully perform the foregoing duties and responsibilities:
       a) The ability to communicate by telephone, computer or other communication devices
       b) The ability to perform after hours or night call responsibilities as needed
       c) The ability to work regularly scheduled work hours
