Position Summary
Posting Note: Phoenix Children's is seeking a Nutrition Lab Supervisor to join our team! In this role, you will partner closely with the department manager to provide day-to-day operational leadership and support for our Nutrition Lab staff, including Formula & Milk Technicians, ensuring the safe and efficient preparation of nutritional products for our patients.
Qualified candidates must possess a Food Handler's Certificate from an ANSI-accredited provider (ServSafe certification preferred). A ServSafe Manager Certification or Infant Feeding Technician Certification is also required, or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Additional qualifications include:
At least 2 years of experience in patient care, food preparation, or a related customer service role.
At least 1 year of experience as a Formula and Milk Technician or in a similar position within a hospital setting.
Hospital or healthcare experience, including familiarity with medical terminology.

This position oversees the daily operations of and has direct oversight of the staff under the Phoenix Children's Nutrition Lab service line. In this leadership role, the supervisor is responsible for operational flow and leading teams to ensure organizational and departmental goals, objectives, and standards are achieved while executing the strategic plans set by the organization. The supervisor will collaborate with all levels within the organization to continually update and improve services to better meet the needs of our patients and families.
Position Duties

Supervises Daily Operations of Nutrition Lab
a. Coordinates the daily operational activities of the Nutrition Lab to include collaboration with medical team members and department leaders to establish, expand, and improve service lines.
b. Effectively manages staff hiring, scheduling, performance feedback, discipline, training and coaching.
c. Creates and organizes team building opportunities, leads staff meetings and supports hospital initiatives within the team.
d. Serves as initial contact for department related issues, remains accessible and responds to urgent issues.
e. Serves as Tech during peak volume and staffing shortages.
f. Effectively manages and creates workflows surrounding the services to achieve desired outcomes.
g. Orders and manages nutrition lab formula, materials and stock. -
Direct Supervision, Team Leadership and Development
a. Assists in the new hire selection process by applying recruiting strategies to fill vacancies. Directly oversees the departmental orientation, ongoing development, and evaluation of assigned employees.
b. Develops education and training techniques to improve onboarding time and outcomes.
c. Works with management to develop effective employee education, productivity metrics, evaluations and improvement plans.
d. Directly handles staffing schedules to flex with volume. Identify and communicate staffing needs to management. -
Process Improvement
a. Collaborates with internal teams and management to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvement.
b. Assists in developing KPI metrics for the Lab and trending data to ensure desired outcomes are being met.
c. Assists in implementing new processes, initiatives or goals of the department or hospital. -
Formula & Milk Technician Duties
a. Preparation and dispensing of Human Milk and Formula
b. Delivers Human Milk and Formula items and supplies to individual rooms/units/floors within the hospital and picks up items as needed.
c. Utilizes Nutrition Lab and Hospital information software and terminologies.
d. Customer service

Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
