Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM–4:15 PM
No direct patient care responsibilities
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Certified Administrative Medical Assistant to support our Neurology division. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong administrative and communication skills who enjoys working in a collaborative healthcare environment.
Required Certifications:
Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA)
Current BLS certification for Health Care Professionals from the American Heart Association
Education Requirements:
Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES, or another school approved by the Department of Education
Position Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Efficient typing and computer proficiency
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Role Summary:
This position supports the division by managing administrative tasks, coordinating communication between patients and the healthcare team, and enhancing the overall patient experience. The role requires strong organizational abilities, clear communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered service.
Key Responsibilities:
Answering the Neurology clinical line
Assisting with medication refills and prior authorizations
Supporting additional departmental administrative tasks, including emails, faxes, and forms

This position works under the direction of a licensed health care professional and performs various clinical and administrative tasks for Phoenix Children’s. This position is mainly administrative but requires a clinical knowledge base to help facilitate patient care.
Position Duties

The Administrative Assistant Medical Assistant performs the following administrative responsibilities but are not limited to:
a) Assists with prescription refill requests
b) Processes medication refills as directed by a provider and according to hospital policies
c) Obtains prior authorizations for medication
d) Obtains prior authorizations for DME
e) Screens telephone calls and takes accurate clinical messages within the Medical Assisting scope of practice as well as in accordance with Phoenix Children's policies
f) Returns patient calls with provider directed instructions
g) Assists patients and providers in completing documentation and any other paperwork in which a provider is required to disclose and/or attest to
h) Cleans and restocks exam rooms
i) In some clinics, may serve as an eligible witness to cycle counting and wasting of controlled substances
j) Follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct -
Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to:
a) Measures and records vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, and signs and symptoms into the electronic health record
b) Communicates patient related information to the licensed health care provider
c) Performs electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, and other diagnostic testing within the Medical Assisting scope.
d) Collects laboratory specimens (including blood specimens)
e) Performs point of care testing
f) Prepares and administers medications with provider authorization and adheres to all regulations, guidelines, and policies for appropriate storage, mixing, disposal, inventory and labeling of medications
g) Utilizes medication reconciliation tools within EHR.
h) Performs routine screening tests
i) Assists the provider with exams
j) Removes sutures, changes dressings, applies bandages and other first aid procedures
k) Prepares and instructs patients about examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, special diets, and health maintenance
l) Disposes of bio-hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA safety standards and hospital policies
m) Demonstrates infection control standards related to hand washing and standard precautions including ensuring that all equipment in exam room is cleaned according to hospital policies
n) Follows Phoenix Children's and OSHA safety rules and procedures at all times
o) Upholds HIPAA regulations -
Remains up to date with certifications, company mandated training and professional development.

May be required to float to other practices as needed by hospital and/or as requested by management.
