Position Summary

The Surgical Services Department Coordinator is responsible for day of surgical scheduling, answering in-coming phone calls, and coordinating communications for the Operating Room. They work closely with the Charge nurse and staff to facilitate smooth daily operations.

Position Duties

  • Coordinates communications for the operating room
    1. Answers all incoming calls, assesses nature/urgency and determines the appropriate triage of the call.
    2. Maintains courtesy and professionalism during urgent situations.
    3. Anticipates problems, critical issues and acts accordingly.
    4. Updates O.R. board.
  • Schedules same day urgent/emergent/trauma procedures
    1. Receives via phone and in person surgical requests.
    2. Processes and schedules surgical cases according to requests.
    3. Provides case instrument and supply information to Sterile Processing Department.
    4. Adjusts scheduling grid.
  • Provides support to other staff as needed
    1. Works effectively in team environment.
    2. Handles sensitive information and confidential matters with a high degree of discretion.
    3. Manages ScrubEx and day lockers.
    4. Screens visitors for proper ID and paperwork.
    5. Places repair orders.
  • Accomplishes necessary tasks in an organized and systematic manner
    1. Maintains knowledge of current policies.
    2. Maintains inventory of forms and office supplies.
    3. Makes changes to next days final O.R. schedule.
    4. Responsible for assisting and relaying patient information for ICU bed requests.
    5. Coordinates inpatient pick-up for procedures being performed in the O.R.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
