Reporting to the Manager, Grants and Contracts, this position is responsible for overseeing grants and contracts for the Phoenix Children’s research and sponsored programs office. This position will assist the investigators and staff with the grant application process, negotiation of federal and non-federal clinical trial budgets, reviewing and administering the clinical and translational research throughout the grant lifecycle from pre-award through post award administration, including, but not limited to, the review on all proposals and grant related correspondence. With oversight, this position will additionally track post award research portfolios, with attention to financial solvency, and post award/financial management. This position requires effective collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders.

Position Duties

  • Assist faculty with research application development and submissions, including coordination with collaborating institutions. Responsibilities include adherence to institutional policies and procedures for application development and submission and ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines. Serves as liaison with external funding agency staff as well as collaborating institutions on grant-related administrative issues throughout the proposal submission and award acceptance processes.
  • Facilitates the development, coordination, execution, and implementation of research contracts, such as MTA, DUA, sponsor and grant supported clinical trials. Evaluates the appropriateness of contract terms, dollars, and conditions, and negotiates with sponsors to finalize clinical trial contracts and budgets.
  • Develops in collaboration with the other members of the team those portions of the proposal that are not specific to the expertise of the investigator (i.e. budget narrative, facilities narrative, inclusion of minorities, protection of human subjects, etc).
  • Review and reconcile research financial reports to ensure appropriate cost and revenue allocations and compliance with federal, institutional and sponsor requirements. Works with the Finance Department to oversee the post-award financial grants management, including communication with external sponsors including budget reallocations, reporting and request for carry forwards.
  • Monitor research spending against budget and escalate variances, as necessary.
  • Assist faculty with managing research deliverables such as progress reports and sponsor inquiries.
  • Assist with the Annual Research Budget and provide information to support strategic decision making.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to the submission and management of grant awards.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
