Position Summary

This position provides appropriate discipline specific therapy services and supervises all therapy services provided to a pediatric population, infant through adolescence/young adulthood. Performs evaluation, program planning, and treatment of patients using appropriate discipline specific modalities that are also specific to age and developmental/functional level determined by assessment. Provides clinical leadership of patient care services and directs supervision of therapists and support staff to ensure consistent provision of developmentally appropriate quality patient care in accordance with all applicable federal, regulatory, professional standards and requirements.

Position Duties

  1. Responsible for the daily operation of the outpatient department. Provides assistance for immediate personnel issues, e.g., signing timecards, processing incident reports in the absence of the Manager, Outpatient Rehabilitation Services. Provides direct guidance and leadership to team members, including employee annual reviews, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements/competencies, and administration of the corrective action process. Conducts, directs, monitors, and insures timely completion of discipline specific orientation.
  2. Provides clinical leadership and supervision for employees of the outpatient rehab center by conducting and coordinating internal use review of clinical cases. Provides or coordinates discipline specific education and develops and/or tests clinical pathways. Enhances staff development through the establishment of program and individual goals. Participates in discipline specific and multidisciplinary program expansion.
  3. Completes, in tandem with the clinical specialist the appraisal process by bringing a relevant clinical perspective for all disciplines in the program. Assists in the interviewing process and makes recommendations for hiring and terminating employees, including having primary responsibility for administration of the corrective action process.
  4. Evaluates and treats patients with a wide range of diagnoses including but not limited to: neurological, sensorimotor, musculoskeletal disorders/delays, complex medical conditions, and trauma. Demonstrates knowledge of typical development and possesses skills necessary to provide age appropriate services. Uses pediatric-based behavior management strategies and matches diagnostic/therapeutic interventions to age/ability of the child, using a framework of family-centered care. Establishes appropriate treatment plans with age-appropriate, functional, and measurable goals with target timeframes. Obtains mutual agreement upon discussion with family/guardian. Implements patient’s plan of care using discipline specific treatment modalities as prescribed by a physician. This may include recommendations for dynamic medical equipment to maximize function. Performs patient/family teaching for maximizing function within the home/community and implementation of home program. Provides care as outlined in the Standards of Care section of the discipline specific Professional Association and PCH Policies & Procedures Manual. Maintains appropriate and timely documentation in compliance with Joint Commission, state/federal guidelines, including participation in Total Quality Management.
  5. Coordinates in-service schedules, insuring completion of evaluation forms and presentation of in-service to staff after attending an outside educational activity. Communicates with other site coordinators about in-service opportunities both internal and external.
  6. Ensures compliance with governing agencies by participating in surveys, reviewing and recommending updates for program policies and procedures and ensuring ongoing compliance during accreditation interim.
  7. Develops, communicates and coordinates regarding new programs and clinic needs to support PCH centers of excellence.
  8. Provides educational programs and in-service training to physicians in training, physicians in general, staff, and others in the community.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
