Position Summary

Posting Note: Position Summary Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Gift Planning, the Sr. Philanthropy Officer (SPO) will help ensure the fundraising success of Phoenix Children’s Gift Planning Program through a focus on frontline activity, with special emphasis on creating and implementing strategies for successful solicitations and building strategic relationships with prospects and donors. This includes preparing written and oral presentations to potential donors, developing gift opportunities, and cultivating and soliciting gift prospects. The Senior Philanthropy Officer will work in collaboration with the AVP, Gift Planning to build upon strategic gift planning initiatives to launch and and grow the program. Education and Experience Requirements: ? Minimum of 10 years in fundraising, development or related field in a non-profit environment. Experience in a medical or academic development setting strongly encouraged ? Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in business, philanthropy or related field ? Must have at least 5 years as a gift planning professional with experience in a sophisticated development or fundraising operation ? Candidate must be able to navigate a wide variety of business and social settings and enjoy taking the message of Phoenix Children’s Hospital to individuals and organizations not yet familiar with its work. Position Duties: ? The Senior Philanthropy Officer will consistently use collaboration, strategy, and a focus on the frontline to achieve annual metrics and financial goals for Phoenix Children’s Foundation and the Office of Gift Planning. ? Carry an individual portfolio of 100 gift planning prospects ? Develop and implement thoughtful, strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for prospective planned giving donors. ? Identify and develop joint and blended giving opportunities in collaboration with philanthropy colleagues from across the foundation, and work toward successful solicitations. ? Identify and qualify new planned giving prospects ? Coordinate activities with other gift officers and entities, including physicians and administrators. ? Ensure regular contact with donors through various activities and communications, especially face to face meetings. ? Identify and develop joint major giving opportunities in collaboration with colleagues and team members across the foundation ? Ability to build relationships with allied professionals, attorneys, financial advisors, CPA’s ? Self-starter in connecting to build relationships in the community. Creating opportunities to share in person and in writing the benefits of deferred and planned giving. ? Support and partner with fundraising colleagues in securing planned gifts by providing technical expertise and options, proposal language, and participating in prospect meetings at appropriate ? Stay current in gift planning trends, opportunities, related legislation, and provide regular updates to colleagues ? Role model frontline focus and productive culture ? Demonstrate an ability to solve problems with discretion, tact and strong communication skills. ? Identify, organize, and direct the efforts of philanthropic volunteers as needed and assigned. ? Meet annual activity and financial performance metrics ? Performs other related duties as assigned by AVP, Gift Planning

Reporting to the VP of Individual Giving, the Sr Philanthropy Officer is a seasoned major gifts fundraiser responsible for securing individual gifts with an emphasis on $100,000 and above. Success is achieved by building long term donor partnerships and demonstrating that all levels of philanthropic support are leveraged to realize maximum impact for Phoenix Children’s mission. The ideal candidate is energetic and enthusiastic, metrics-driven, and is comfortable working in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

Position Duties

  1. Manages a portfolio of 125-150 prospects.
  2. Develops and implements thoughtful, strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for prospective donors for gifts of $25,000 with an emphasis on $100,000 or more.
  3. Ensures regular contact with donors through various activities and communications, especially face to face meetings.
  4. Identifies and develops joint major giving opportunities in collaboration with colleagues and team members across the foundation.
  5. Develops and manages timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner.
  6. Develops expertise in hospital Centers of Excellence and service lines. Serves as foundation liaison in assisting physicians, program directors and administration with capital and programmatic funding needs.
  7. Manages a philanthropic advisory board for one of the Centers of Excellence.
  8. Supports the Director, Individual Giving on fundraising activities and follow-up.
  9. Meets annual activity and financial performance metrics.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
