Position Summary

Posting Note: This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic leadership team. This ED Registration Supervisor role will be joining a team of 4 ED Registration Supervisors with great support and teamwork. We are actively searching for 2 supervisors who will work 3, 12-hour shifts and a 6-hour shift, totaling 40 hours per week after mealtime deductions. Currently, the shifts available for the supervisor will be 6P-6A and one day either 6P-12A or 12A-6A. There will be rotating weekends between all four supervisors. The Supervisor, ED Patient Access works under the direction of the Manager and is responsible for the oversight of 24/7 activities of the Emergency Department Registration function. This position maintains appropriate staffing levels based on historical volume analysis and clinical needs, monitors daily productivity and registration quality, reallocates duties, as needed, to assure timely completion of registrations and admissions, and works with the clinical ED staff and leadership to ensure smooth patient flow and throughput.

Position Duties

  1. Supervises Patient Access staff in the Emergency Department.
    • Actively participates in overseeing and guiding the department staff to include employee selection, training, development, performance evaluations and discipline.
    • Oversees the daily operational activities of the department and assumes responsibility when Manager is not available.
    • Plans and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution and completion of assignments. Maintains staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
    • Responds to patient fluctuations and assists staff in daily needs; performs the duties of a Patient Access Representative, as needed.
  2. Acts as a role model to staff.
    • Actively participates in overseeing and guiding the department staff to include employee selection, training, development, performance evaluations and discipline.

    • Plans and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution and completion of assignments. Maintains staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
    • Responds to patient fluctuations and assists staff in daily needs; performs the duties of a Patient Access Representative, as needed.
  3. Seeks continuous opportunities for growth and improvement.
    • Identifies opportunities for departmental process improvements.
    • Participates in a variety of departmental and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels and demonstrates commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  4. Oversees daily operations of ED Patient Access.
    • Reconciles cash collected on a daily basis with any discrepancies investigated and resolved within 24 hours and reports to the Manager and Director; monitors collections of staff and ensures all registrars are attempting to collect out-of-pocket amounts due at the time of service; and works with financial counseling, vendor and government liaisons to assist all self-pay patients in obtaining coverage and/or securing payment, payment arrangements, or financial assistance.
    • Maintains department manuals and reference materials; communicates and implements updates and requirements on a timely basis.
    • Provides information for reporting by compiling department statistics, generating productivity reports, performing QA audits to assess accuracy and compliance, and monitoring KPI's.
    • Ensures that staff provide appropriate documentation of registration related activities in the system; and reviews data prior to submission of government agencies to ensure accuracy.
    • Responds to patient fluctuations and assists staff in daily needs; performs the duties of a Patient Access Representative, as needed.
    • Contributing to team efforts and using appropriate conflict management skills proactively to resolve interdepartmental and interdepartmental grievances/concerns.
    • Evaluating staff performance and making recommendations for promotions and disciplinary action.
    • Providing fiscal management by developing and recommending department operating budget as instructed and insures compliance. Evaluating and justifying equipment and supply needs.
    • Facilitates and organizes regular staff meetings for the purpose of communicating new policies, procedures, equipment, and unit and organizational concerns.
  5. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
