Position Summary

The Operational Communications Manager is responsible for communications with internal stakeholders (employees, providers, contractors) to keep them informed of Phoenix Children’s initiatives as a health system, this includes developing and executing on the strategic corporate/internal communications plans for the system in total, and each of the business units. This role is also responsible for managing the organic/owned content internal-facing channels (intranet, content, clinical social media platforms, video content) and how these channels are utilized for internal audiences and key stakeholders. Execution on the operational communications plan involves designing messages that are resonant, delivering them to the intended audiences through the right channels, and receiving feedback all while keeping the specific communications purpose in mind. This role must be willing to define communications processes within and between various business units, experiment with new mediums and ideas and bring the Phoenix Children’s mission and brand story to life for employees. This role also coordinates with the HR function to support employee relations efforts through internal communications campaigns and employee engagement. The Manager of Operational Communications is also responsible for developing reporting mechanisms to show progress against stated business and communications objectives. The keys to effective communications at Phoenix Children’s are consistency and constancy. Excellent writing and interpersonal relationship skills are needed to be successful in this role.

Position Duties

  1. Communications Planning and Execution
    • Works with leadership and stakeholders to develop annual operational communications plans, annual reports and annual presentations to employees. Supports operational business units to develop and execute campaigns that promote understanding of operational processes and key operational initiatives and/or applications. Builds and maintains reliable channels to engage, inform and mobilize employees throughout Phoenix Children’s and its business units.
  2. Process and Tools Management
    • Ensures consistent application of the operational communications process by creating systems to oversee the workload, resources, internal/external teams to deliver on multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, meeting deadlines, quality measures and budgets. Measures, assesses and regularly reports on the effectiveness of operational communication programs. Develops and executes regular communications training (e.g., social media and online reviews). Works with IT to select and oversee outside vendors for content channels including intranet and email.
  3. Relationship Management
    • Works with members of senior management to support the overall strategy for business operations communications that are concise and transparent. Generate reports and present information to upper-level management.
  4. Content Management
    • Plans and manages the development and delivery of content for business operational communications. Develop compelling content to assist in designing messages that are resonant and appropriate for the communication channel being used.
  5. Research and Strategy Development
    • Uses research to better understand stakeholders in order to develop strategies and tactics to communicate appropriately. Studies Phoenix Children’s strategic objectives and needs to build impactful communications strategies that keep the organization and its stakeholders informed about Phoenix Children`s developments.
