Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Materials Technician provides a variety of technical functions in compliance with policies and procedures of Perioperative Services, ARON, JCAHO, OSHA, and AAMI standards. The Sterile Processing Materials Technician must have a working knowledge of inventory, supply-stocking, and disbursement functions for all of Perioperative Services to provide continuous availability of items for efficient department operations.

Position Duties

  1. Maintains current inventory of stock.
    • Performs an inventory count daily.
    • Orders and puts stock away daily.
    • Participates in regular review of sterile stock items to ensure integrity of packaging.
    • Reviews expiration dates and pulls expired items in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  2. Assembles case carts.
    • Places all needed supplies on / in case carts.
    • Places all needed instrumentation in / on case carts.
  3. Maintains inventory of supplies in exchange carts for operating rooms.
    • Stocks and replenishes items to provide ongoing availability of required items.
  4. Puts away instrumentation and supplies.
    • Places returned instrumentation and supplies back onto shelves in Sterile Processing.
    • Places instrumentation on shelves when complete sterilization parameters and cooling period have been met.
  5. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
